Jellyman, I have not used any sprays yet. My local nurseryman says my job is to look out for caterpillars and Japanese beetles these first two years and maybe scale next year. So I haven't sprayed but I walk through daily and pick off critters. I must have done something right, they all have a lot of new growth, upwards of 8 inches already from just whips early last month. So, what are the little green "eggs"?

Are some falling or just so many that you are curious? Old trees are often called 'wild'. Seed grown years ago for ciders, juice, and baking. Even used as water when in a drought or wells dried up...or a water source became contaminated. I have some oldies and have small tart fruit. Small, having never been pruned for years. (If ever). Overgrown. They will sweeten a bit come fall but usually still on the tart side and not great as a fresh eater. Depending how ambitious you are, many things can be made from them. Cider, vinegars, baked, prepped and frozen or canned, etc. My farm was established around 1813-15 by town records, so fruit trees were most likely planted following the clearing of the fields... Might be good to try and determine the age of your trees. A pic of the whole tree and a close-up of a fruit cluster and your location. Some, if not too old, can be pruned and the fruit culled over a few years to give new life and tasty large fruit. (I've put in grafted trees over the past 20 yrs for fresh fruit.) Googling different key words like 'wild apple tree recipes' might help. As mentioned, the fruit and orchard forum on here can help determine the age of your trees. Some might say 'good for firewood', 'good for nuttin'.... i tend to ignore those comments.

I think my living room is painted in Manchester Tan but I'm not sure without going to the garage to look at the cans. My cousin has her house painted the same color with white woodwork in all the rooms. Her house is a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath row house with the smallest kitchen I've ever seen. She has lived there over 50 yrs. I think painting all the same color makes it look larger? She is an immaculate housekeeper, nothing is never out of place. Her Mother was the same way. I think they put up white wainscoat in the dining room. I think the same color throughout the house makes it look more uniform? I guess that is the word I'm looking for. I couldn't imagine it until I saw it and I love it. It's such a beautiful color and that white woodwork and white lace curtains just makes the colored walls pop. When we lived in our former homes, we always had a different color of carpet for each room. This house had all the same color throughout when it went on the market 7 yrs. ago. I can see now why my friend kept telling me all one color makes things look put together, not chopped up. I didn't understand her philosophy years ago but now I do and I love it and wouldn't have but one color ever.

Well, of course you have that same photo. You have good taste! LOL Thinking out loud here (or rather thinking through my fingers).... Given the choice between painting the hood the same as the walls or painting it to match your lovely green cabs, I'd paint it to match the walls. Picture this vertical image: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, green hood standing out against a wall painted a different color. Or: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, painted hood blending into the wall. It think the latter presents a calmer picture overall, especially given the varied pattern of your tile backsplash. As for what color to paint your walls, hmmmm. Are the putty cabs close in color to the grayish tiles in your backsplash? And does that color blend well (in same color family) with the SS treatment behind the range? If so, using a paler version of the putty cabs will give a soothing, pulled together look while pulling in the wall of cabs across from the range. But frankly, Farrow's cream is calling my name (pick me, pick me, pick me). I think it matches the mood of your happy green cabinet color so well and will harmonize nicely with the hood's wood trim and the wood floors. I also like that it picks up the cream tiles, especially since I don't see that color used anywhere else in your plan. Oh, but I forgot to take into account your counters! Danby marble has gray veins, right? That's brings a lot of cool tones to the space as well. Perhaps enough for you? So I think it comes down to this: If green is your primary color for your space, what do you want to use as the secondary color, mushroom or cream? Are you aiming for a soothing, serene space (mushroom) or a cheerful, retro feel (cream)?
