The paradoxes of winter light.

User

So, we get the shortest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the sun hangs low in the crystal clear sky. (Compare that to all those overcast days in spring or hazy days of summer.) This is the very brightest light I get in the house. The sun is low enough to stream into the southern exposure windows (low angle and no leaves on the deciduous trees). Then there's the snow. Snow covered ground bounce light into the house and into the greenhouse in the back. Practically need sun glasses in the middle of the rooms. One more paradox of winter of winter--on Tuesday, January 4th the earth will be at perihelion. It's the closest we get to the sun and will be 4 million miles closer than in July. Happy Perihelion!

PS., Something to keep in mind for those palms and other plants that we keep close to the windows. Some may burn from the intense light and may actually prefer a bit of protection with a shear curtain.
