However, since the Japanese Tree Lilacs will grow bigger than the S. vulgaris hybrids you thought you were getting, you might want to rethink where they are. From the photos, it looks as though they would be good trees for the location. I am not sure, but they might be a more expensive plant than what you thought you were getting, so if you can live with them, and handle the extra height, you might have the better end of the deal. If you REALLY don't want them - more height, different plant than you contracted for, lack of fragrance, different time of bloom, etc., then contact the Nursery and ask them to replace them. They may not be willing to, who knows, but you should get SOME redress, if only a steep discount on your next major purchases.

The one place I got my persian lilac is Boyce Thompson Arboretum. I went there this late spring and I bought two one gallon lilacs in bloom. They survived this hot July and now are growing new leaves. They doubled in hight and they look OK. I previously had a lilac that one of my friends gave me. It survived for 13 years and bloomed sometimes twice a year. Do not know what cultivar it was but it died three years ago. I blame my robinia accacia tree that was close to the lilac and probably robbed it's nutrients. I would suggest to anybody that wants a persian lilac to call Boyce Thompson and find about availability. They also have a gorgeous mexican redbud but unfortunately they do not have it for sale since is very difficult to propagate.

Susan,I could snap pics all day in that bed! :) I just got my new camera for Christmas,isnt it exciting? Every Morning I get up and walk the yard with my camera,I take pics of just about everything! I recently discovered some Monarch cats on my pots of ws Milkweed,I have captured some awesome pics of them shedding. I also have some Swallowtail cats in various pots and gardens with Fennel and Dill. I have been snapping pics of those guys like crazy! I cant wait to show you guys the pics of my cats,they are special to me,because around here,you dont see many,due to the large amount of birds/wasps.I am hoping to change that, (not by eliminating birds,but with plantings...lol..I just realized how that sounded....lol...good thing for the preview option! ),and so far it looks like my first attempts are working out pretty good! I am doing lots and lots of Milkweed and Dill/Fennel next year,along with some other host plants,I just recently read about. My goal is to attract the Harvester,I would love those cats to hang around eating these awful little *#!*# aphids! I would love to attract them all here,but I guess I have to attack one goal at a time! ;) shemeows,I will have lots of seed I am sure,if you would like some just let me know. I will be cleaning them and offering them for trade this fall. I am keeping some individuals for a couple people,but the rest will be a mix,I am not sure if they will be true or not,being they are all together. I am going to collect seed from the shorter ones and make them their own mix and the same with the taller ones. I am definitely keeping a nice amount of seed for my self also. I still have seed left from the named ones,those I will plant separate next year,to help try to keep the seed true! Helen, it is an heirloom I bought several years ago and they just self-seeded. All my petunias are....they are supposed to have fragrance, but I can't smell anything. I have saved some seeds of the purples only for ceresone and am trying to get seeds from the KY Mix. They stay so green I am having trouble finding dried seed heads. All the petunias are looking great. glenda
