Corn gluten meal around strawberries
Comments (0)Has anyone used corn gluten meal around strawberries? It prevents weeds from seeding, but I was wondering if it would affect the runners from taking root. Has anyone tried this before? We have been spending every evening weeding and just trying to make it a little easier. Thanks!...See MoreCorn Gluten Meal and Vinca Minor
Comments (5)I think it looks good around shrubs. Here's a picture of it where I kept up with the weeds as the vinca was filling in. Round Up kills it. I sprayed a large area where horse tails had taken over. I haven't tried a nuke on horse tails, but I think that's what it might take to get rid of THOSE things!...See MoreCorn Gluten meal
Comments (13)The variables include amount of rainfall or irrigation after application, the weed species being controlled, area of the country, application rate, the time of year and others. It works best where once applied and watered in, little rainfall follows. Too much water will allow the affected seedlings to grow past the effects. This also means the effectiveness depends on the area of the country and its climate. It should also be understood that the herbicidal effects last 4-6 weeks, at best. This is one reason it is often used as a crabrass preemergent since the germination window is relatively short. It also acts as a fertlizer and some conjecture that a good measure of its weed control in lawns comes from the CGM fertilizing the grass so it crowds out competing weeds. I was not aware that CGM is prevented from being OMRI approved. The link is to an OMRI listed CGM product. Here is a link that might be useful: CGM label...See MoreHow much oil in Corn Gluten Meal?
Comments (17)If you only count the energy used at the gasification plant that produces the ethanol. If you count the energy required to produce the corn (which you must) and get the corn to the gasification plant the net energy used is greater than what we eventually get from Ethanol produced from corn. There are other forms of vegetation that Ethanol can be derived from that actually produce the product at much less energy that it takes ot manufacure it, that grows on land that does not do good at producing foods, and is pretty much self sustaining. No one, today, would be in the Ethanol form corn business if they did not get bery large subsidies from us to make that....See Moreiowa50126
