Actually I thought you were pretty specific with your information when you used the words 'no summer bloomers' 'genetically bloom' and 'manipulated' to explain to someone in Zone 5 why their plant won't bloom this year. I do not understand your statement that you do not consider species in the equation since all hybrids originate from the species. I also did not list any miniatures that are currently blooming like parishii and chibae. When checking Carole Hoyt on Orchid Wiz, the species showing up are mariae, pallens, violacea, lueddemanniana and several crosses to amboinensis - all summer blooming species. Throw in the spring bloomers of aphrodite, amabilis, schilleriana and sanderiana it sounds like a summer bloomer to me. We must have the same computer Pat because my mouse also jumps to the Buy It Now feature. My computer has purchased some great plants doing the jiggity jump into that box. Now if my computer had it's own bank account :>) Mehitabel the gig does have a spike but it is a previously bloomed spike :>( But that's a good thing since next blooming season it will get a new spike and the old one will rebloom. Peter enjoyed the blooms and THEN put it up for sale. I probably would have had to mortgage the farm to buy a budding/blooming gig. I'm just thankful he decided to part with one from his collection and no one else saw it before I did. I can't even remember what information I was looking for when I went to his online store after I saw the gig for sale. I do like the modesta x javanica cross but I think the reason the cross was done was to try to flatten out the bloom through modesta. It is a very young plant, first bloom and could improve if I can grow it to perfection. Even if it doesn't uncup, I still like it :>) Brooke
