Thurs: Red Flag Fire Warning for SW OK, Panhandle counties

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The NWS office in Amarillo has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning for the OK Panbandle and for some counties in adjoining states.

The NWS office in Norman has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning for some counties in SW OK and in the portion of Texas covered by its office.

The Red Flag Fire Warning from the Norman office is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the one issued by the Amarillo office (at least for the county I checked) is in effect from 12 noon through 8 p.m.

In the Red Flag Fire Warning areas, fire danger will be Extreme today. In the remainder of the state, fire danger will vary but mostly will be Very High or High.

New watches or warnings can be issued at any time.

Plenty of the bad wildfires this year have occurred on days with fire danger was classified only as "High" or "Very High" in the areas that burned, so don't think that your area is 'off the hook' just because it does not have a Red Flag Fire Warning at the present time.
