I discovered from the NEWFS website that their Nasami nursery is under construction and not open right now. From the Triple Brook Farm website, I learned they do mostly mail order and what they offer is not appealing to me anyway. So those two are out.

Yes, the Mass Pike, traveling from Boston toward Sturbridge and beyond...I believe we will be close to Lenox by the time we leave the Mass Pike. So that is almost 3 hours driving from Boston. We were hoping to find something that wouldn't take us too far off our route.

Wow. I brought up my googlemap of nurseries, and all of them are a distance from 90...even Andrew's Greenhouse and Bay State Perennials (both in amherst). (not sure if they are *true* destination nurseries, especially now)

Suggestions: (*relatively* close) is Variegated Foliage in Eastford, CT. Logees Greenhouse in Danielson, CT, and Quacking Grass Nursery in Brooklyn, CT ARE destination nurseries, but lead you farther off your trail...the good news, is that they are close to each other.

Ah, boston...it's so nice to have all resources right at your fingertips...wish all locations were like that...:P

I haven't been there, but really should get there sometime - Berkshire Botanical Garden. It's in Stockbridge, which isn't too far from Lenox.

White Flower Farm is further south, down Rt 7.

Thank you both for the help. I am glad to have some ideas...I have wanted to see Variegated Foliage and I didn't know there was a Botanical Garden in the Berkshire area. I did remember that Tower Hill will be on the way back too.

Ctreynard, your comment about your google map of nurseries, had me tinkering with google maps today trying to create my own map. [g] Might take a little time for me to figure it out but when I have more time I may give that a try. Looks like a good tool.

if i remember correctly, when i drove to logee's for a GW get together a few yrs ago, logee's and quack. grass were just 30 min or so from the pike..... QG is very worthwhile, as many have posted. Much to see there.

There is "New England Garden Ornaments" in North Brookfield...they are not a nursery but have loads of garden bling :-)

There is a new store called Green Path Garden Supply on Route 9 in Brookfield which sells all kinds of organic gardening products, and they sell some plants. They also sell indoor gardening equipment, hydroponics etc. Worth a stop if you are an organic gardener.

I didn't know that Nasami's nursery was closed. I can't visit there anyway, I have a meltdown and buy way too much...
