hosta to stabilize hillside?

I am trying to plant on our back hill which has eroded terribly since I removed the vinca, ivy, and weeds without replanting right away. I have now planted several native kalmia latifolia and I bought some mondo grass and liriope because I thought it might be best to have something evergreen there (and it was on sale...), so the leaves could break the rain's ability to send dirt cascading down the hill. I could also put a couple of heuchera in that I haven't planted yet. I would much rather have hosta all over the hill instead of the liriope and mondo grass.

I still have about 18 hosta that could be planted there, too. Would the roots do enough to hold the dirt, do you think, or would I end up with a tangled mass of washed-out hosta at the base of the hill?

Thanks all.

Cynthia
