I believe this is what has sparked the second spikes this year: the AC in my building kicked in for the summer, so even though the long, warm days are here, the temps in this room have dropped considerably. The next temperature swing will be in February, which coincides with lengthening after days after winter ... I think this is how I've ended up with two bloomings per year, and spikes that grow more buds one month after the first series of buds have opened. I feel like a greenhouse tricking orchids to bloom out of season (except I'm not 100% sure how I'm doing it, lol!). Oddly, my office had been in a south-facing, evenly temperate location down the hall for 7 years, and this never happened. My orchids faithfully had one bloom every year at the same time. Now I'm in an east-facing location, and the temp is all over the place, and it's a circus up in here, I'm never sure what to expect!

Hello Andrea, you must be doing mostly good things with the culture to get a couple of blooms though they are out of season. Most bloom in spring which is a good time to detach the keikis and plant them in tiny pots. Some clones are more inclined to make keikis than others. Though too many keikis are the result of fertilising and too much water in the resting season (Late autumn through to winter).

I initially bought my paste with the attempts to do experiments as well. This is a small amount, but if it works well, I will try to see how it affects my propagation. Initially, I'll try to experiment the effect on leaf cuttings when using this instead of the standard rooting hormone. (could not find a reference to that, so I will experiment) The link you provided makes me wonder if applying this paste on cacti, for instance, can make monstrose or cristate growth, and I will see if that happens too. The Adenium pictures posted on this thread seem to have multiple branches poking out from the cut end and this may be a monstrose. ConnyNL, if you have progression photos without pruning, I'm curious to see if my guess is right. Karen, Keiki paste is not essential for rooting success in case of Aloes, Haworthias and Gasterias. However, those plants do not produce them as commonly as orchids do. The paste is necessary only to increase the chances to develop a keiki on the stem.

Where do you live? What part of the World? You need to give this info to have us help properly. If you are in a summer climate, cut off part of the stem the keki is attached to. Pot the baby in some moist sphag. You can turn the plant so the roots find the moist sphag. The new leaves will adjust to the position. Once cut the roots need to find the moisture. Don't worry about the leaves, they will grow in the right direction. I like to leave a piece of the mother stem attached, but it isn't necessary. Put the baby in a bright window or outdoors (if in summer) to grow. Jane
