A friend told me they would come back faster if your cut off the damaged leaves, but I haven't verifed it myself. (Maybe you can try it on some of yours and report back to us.) Either way, your established plants should survive. But they'll look bad until a new flush of leaves is produced.

Sandy, you are so right. In a perfect world, our gardens would be worry-free, no deer, rabbits, insects, and BIRDS! I had a Blue Heron eat every fish out of my pond. Some of those fish were over 7 years old and huge. I was just heartbroken (they all had names). Not that I really want to harm these animals, I just want them to go away. My summer season is so short, and to spend it fighting off insects & animals is just exhausting. Lynnem - I will have to investigate cutworms; don't think I've ever dealt with them before.

yup, Jenna... we too had the roof redone last year... severe hail twice in the last few of years and several incidents less severe... our newer car, a little tin can called a 2000 Tracker, looks like a golf ball due to all its dimples... its been nice this year to actually get through until now without watching the babies shredded...

The household chemicals use label issue is a personal and common sense decision - no different than speeding. Using bleach as a disinfectant is plain common sense - no political correctness intended or observed in its use in any inside or outside application. It is bleach, with its own label use hazard warnings which are quite serious, but when followed are effective for the intended chemical use!!!! All those that have never sped over the limit are allowed to give garden web hosta growing advice which we will all respect - the rest of us lawbreakers will remain anonymous until big brother finds out that you have been poring hot water in holes in your gardens,,,,,. That is a climate change problem that our President has proposed banning for future use, so look for another option, away from using carbon burning energy. NO sunlight powered energy allowed, recall we are shady people. Today I killed a bunch of slimy critters while planting hosta; shhhhh..... don't tell anyone.
