HAVE: Gardener's Hand Soap - Kelso/Longview Swap
Comments (1)I would love to give your soap a try. A friend of mine gave me some a couple of years ago that I really enjoyed, and I would like to sample others. I have some of the plants you listed on your want list potted up - still have to dig the comfrey, but I'm hoping DH will help with that since it's a bit difficult to dig. He helps a lot so I'm sure he will accomodate me....See MoreOT Help for 'Gardener's Hands'
Comments (23)I agree 100% with what Eduarda said about wearing gloves. Prevention is the best solution to the problem. I have also found that if I wash my hands often and use a soft nail brush, cleaning my fingers and hands to remove all dirt (and bacteria) that my fingers don't crack and get sore. Really! The best cream for hands & feet is Crisco shortening. Just a dab is all that you need. The best oil for healthy, glowing skin, especially when you're out in the sun all day, is Pure Virgin Olive Oil. I used olive oil on my babies years ago. No diaper rashes or skin problems of any kind. I also use it to "set" my nail polish. And as a bonus, I get smooth fingers and hands. The odor dissipates quickly. I rather like the smell myself, however. I use Olive oil to clean pet's ears. It doesn't burn and really smothers out ear mites, too. I put a dropper of olive oil on ears of corn to get rid of corn worms with beautiful results. Good stuff, Maynard! Try it! You might like it! :) Now make me use it! I forget half the time and then, boy am I sorry!!! :( ~ sweetannie4u...See MoreWhat's your favorite hand lotion for those garden weary hands?
Comments (35)I've had good luck with many different brands & types- it seems like the key or common ingredients are shea butter (miraculous) goat's milk lanolin vitamins A & E aloe I've had excellent results using aloe straight from the plant for a lot of problems other than burns. Last week I had an insect bite that turned red, got chapped, flaked, & *itched* like fire. I tried every single remedy in the medicine cabinet with no effect, & then... I accidentally broke off an aloe vera leaf. Figuring I didn't have anything to lose, I squeezed the fluid onto the spot & the itch stopped immediately & the place started to heal....See MoreGardener's Hands
Comments (20)CB - never thought anyone else used Comet! Actually, I find the state of my hands and feet are sometimes the source of new gardening friends! To see one, is to know one.... I long ago stopped worrying but don't wear sandals out in public anymore and sometimes use an old toothbrush with bleach under the nails when the occasion calls for it. One day I stopped at the door to my husband's studio, looking like I usually do when in the yard..covered with dirt, blood running down my legs, plumbago flowers stuck everywhere, smelling less than fragrant, dressed in saggy tank top and torn shorts, and said to him... "Is this the woman who stole your heart?" His response was something like.."How come when I see photos of other gardeners, they are dressed in long skirts, wearing hats, carrying straw baskets full of flowers?" So I said, "you're just lucky, I guess." So no more vanity in my life! Hester...See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
