Well my experience with this plant is much different from other posters. Here, now is the time of year when established SJ's drop some old leaves and can look like your pictures. I often wonder if it is a reaction to a spell of Santa Ana winds, which we had a few weeks ago or the nights cooling off after being fairly warm all summer. Check--is the soil really dry? A good soaking or two now with the hose would not hurt. Mine do this leaf drop thing every year if I forget to fertilize and skimp on the water. Next year, give them some slow release fertilizer right after bloom, (when they start pushing new growth) and they should not look so bad come this time next year. That is my experience with my multiple Star Jasmine plants of many years growth. Others of course may know different.

I think when your particles are more evenly sized you'll see more water coming out, at least I know I do! :) My Mysore Mulli is quite lopsided. I'm hoping if I can keep some of the rooted cuttings I took from it alive then I'll plant them in the pot on the bare side to even things up! -Robert

No, that looks very different in flower and stem from TLD. TLD is very compact and has fuzzy branches with a greyish tint, and the blooms have very little white on the edges. Smells like sharp lemon, too.

They are usually pretty carefree plants. They do like humidity and will sometimes drop leaves if it is really dry like in a desert climate. If the soil is too wet (usually because the soil isn't draining properly) or too dry then they can drop leaves. Also, whitefly is sometimes a problem for smaller plants. Here, mine get up to the roof line of the house over a summer so insects are trivial problems to the large plants. In the winter, they die to the ground once it freezes hard. I pretty much water them a few times a week here and forget about them and they bloom in flushes summer through whenever it freezes here (usually late Nov). They do love fertilizer. I have them in full sun and semi sandy soil. They root very easily from cuttings. I just get a 1 gallon pot and fill with potting soil and take several cuttings about 8 inches long. I use a powdered rooting hormone but probably not necessary. I have also stuck cuttings straight into the ground without rooting hormone and kept them watered and they rooted. ~SJN
