the maple tree has been cut down & the earth berm cleaned up, then broadened to approx. 125 sq. ft. of planting surface. I tilled in nearly a yard of composted cow manure and am busy planting it, especially with all the potted plants I've had sitting around. I also have my hummingbird plants in a temporary bed...a wood-frame raised bed.

I've had some minis bloom as well, then border Toro Blanco
and Wrong Song. The tall's are just about to bloom, I think it's going to be But Beautiful with lot's following.

My first tall bearded is the ever stunning IMPRESSIONIST. First dwarf bearded was Chanted with its smoky pink sparked by bright lavender blue beard.

My dog "picked" (ran into and broke off at the base....grrr) a whole stalk of Impressionist about a week before it began to show color....it is blooming in a vase. I've come to accept that whenever I am working in the garden Pearl will pick something. Yesterday she took some fuschia cuttings. Reasonable trade off for varmit protection. jwww

I have lots of Pacific coast iris in bloom now. I have lots of buds on my TB iris but no blooms yet. I have most of them in semi-shade so they bloom a little later. I really love TB iris but my trees are getting so big that every year I have less and less blossoms. I am gradually replacing them with PC iris which will bloom in shade. They are pretty but not as impressive as those tall bearded iris.

I have a peach color mini which has been blooming for a week, my purple and yellow tall iris are in bud.
Would someone please tell me how to go about posting pictures?

I have some yellow beardeds in bloom and Superstition is getting ready to open up. Yeah!

hee hee... well it isn't ONE iris with 32 stalks! that would really be something, wouldn't it? No, it is a whole bed of iris that got planted last summer and this is it's first year of bloom for me. I was just impressed with the high # of stalks on their first year... I wasn't expecting much. I won't know what kind they all are till they bloom, as they are a mixed batch. It is going to be fun finding out though.

I'm starting to wish I could let the chickens go out on slug patrol though, I'm seeing a lot more now that I am keeping them locked up. I can't let them out when I have seedlings though, or they'd all disapear! Bad enough that one of my cats dug in my veggie bed full of lettuce seeds!

A couple of mini's bloomed, Blue Rill, Dark Vader, then some TB's, an un-IDed purple/dark purple bicolor with some gold in the center and a gold one next to it, and the bicolor Mariposa Skies, and Saturday Night Live, which has two bloom stalks its second year.

My first to bloom was a dwarf bearded called "Starbaby". It's rather like "Loop-de-Loop" but much smaller. It was followed by another dwarf called "Dark Vader" which is darkest blue with a light blue beard, and is my favourite!

Probably Iris unguicularis.

Well, there you go, Ron has found us an Iris with 32 stalks, or pretty close. Quite floriferous and scented to boot.

After the dwarfs..my Iris Japonica bloomed first..then my Pacific Coast Iris....which are blooming nicely now. I have only one bearded Iris in bloom..a no named purple..but more of them are getting ready. My garden has shade for a lot of the day so most blooms are later in the season for me.

I just heard about the winter Iris.. Where can you by one? I need more winter blooms. *G*

Iris japonica - some call it butterfly or orchid iris. It is a crested iris and a runner but blooms so early, mid-March, and so long - I don't know any iris that blooms this long - into early May. Small white blooms with flecks of lavender and a bit of gold down the throat. Too pretty!

Frank Adams (?) blooming more profusely and taller than ever before (4 ft) and Az Ap with color showing in several others.

The ones against the south side of my house: Cranapple (I love their deep red when the sun shines through it late in the afternoon) and a non-ID'd tall bearded that has dark-blue-purple lower petals with light-purple top (upright) ones. It's one of my favorites because of the smoky contrast between the top half and bottom half of the flower.

madspinner...my 'Beverley Sills' is budded up and ready to open...also one that I think will be 'Grand Waltz', judging by the color at the edge of the buds. my near-black iris blooms later, but was in bloom for at least 4 weeks last year.

you can expect to see some white ones this year...even when none of the others bloomed, there were always a few white ones. I had 2 that were very similar in looks..biggest difference was a yellow caterpiller on one and orange on the other. a good season of growth in your iris patch this year should really get the show on the road next year.

Yes, I see a lot of buds that look like they will be white, and one that looks pink. I'll take pictures as they come along.

A very pretty burgandy/black one opened up the day before yesterday. I'll try to post more pics later.

Here is the Loop de Loop iris... it is close to the end of it's bloom now, but it sure was lovely. I have more of it than any other iris in my garden...

Here is another one of Patrick's... this one is dark burgundy, almost black. Pity the picture isn't better... I took another today, maybe it will turn out more true to color. Do you know what it is? There are several blooming now.

Oh, and one of the white ones opened this morning, so I will have to get the pictures off my camera and onto the computer when I can.

My batik is first. It's at it's peak now. The rain didn't do it any good. Pity, too. It looked great until then.

Mine are almost all done..the bearded's that is..However a few years back I got a white one from someone, and it usually gives me blooms 2x...So I'm looking forward to that!

My Batik isn't blooming yet. If I can get photobucket to work, I have a nice white iris blooming right now.

Oh, and after looking at some pictures, that Iris I thought was Loop de loop... well it isn't. But I think I like it better than loop anyway. I love all that bright blue veining.

Iris innominata and Iris tenax

In your above photo of the white iris, you'll note a sort of flesh-colored bud in the bottom right corner...that should be Beverly Sills...the bloom color is much prettier than the bud (fortunately!). She's generally prolific, both with plant and blooms.

The one I suspected was going to be Grand Waltz surprised me & turned out to be Ringo. I'll get a pic and send later.

On a side note: When Iris bloom, it is a safe time to plant tomatos. (this does not include winter blooming or super early iris). My first iris bloomed on may 5. Planted tomatos the next day. Tomatos struggled a bit with the cool nights, but they all survived. Doing great now. Adios, Paul.
