Non- Blooming Daffodils- Many this year

My husband wonders if our property has become host to a new strain of poison-resistant squirrels that just laugh and munch away while we think they can't handle the poisonous narcissi bulbs. honestly, we planted hyndreds of bulbs 2 yrs ago and very few are blooming. i know this for a fact because i plant muscari as a marker for my narcissus sites, and there are plenty of muscari around, but few narcissi.

what gives?? any ideas? we have been planting bulbs here for 17 yrs., so i can't imagine that the drainage would have changed drastically. i doubt that i fertilized last fall, though i know i should have, but that hasn't kept the

ancient narcissi in the woods- from continuing to bloom.

i don't understand.... appreciate your thoughts.

best, mindy
