Ken.. Or anyone. I got them. More advise pls
Comments (6)Ken, thank you very much for responding. I wish I had a camera. I don't see any of the bleed or other symptoms of HVX that I see in pixs posted here. But who knows. This came from a very reputatble nursery, not that that means it couldn't be HVX. They carry about 200 named hosta.. which for my town is huge. The eyes are just so crowded. A couple of the outer leaves look OK as far as shape and color. The weirdness comes on the leaves comming from the eyes jambed in the center of the clump. These are coming out with VERY wavy edges and some of the leaves are mishaped. They are all about the proper length they just vary in width. One leaf from the very center eye is only about 1/2" wide by 3-4" long, major waviness going on with this one. And some other leaves on some of the other inner eyes are also very narrow. Just not that narrow. Now I'm worried Alexis...See MoreLiberty, Patriot, Minuteman, etc. What's the story?
Comments (10)OOH OOH, I JUST got Liberty on Friday! Made a special trip back to that grower I'd posted about in my "look what I scored today" post. I spent a pretty penny on a division from a quite mature plant. Needless to say, that baby is an anchor at the back of my bed! I am overly attracted to hosta that have strong contrast in variegation. I think that's why I have so many of the "patriotic" named ones in my collection. But I will say, it draws your eye in a different way that the other more subtle-y variegated ones. I mean, yeah, Climax is gorgeous, but put it next to Minuteman and it's just not as dramatic! I bought an Independence a few weeks back. Even though I already had one, I bought this one cuz it was sporting. I wanted to see what would become of the sport! It's Dang Near All White! Take care, Melissa...See MoreHosta pics - ken's request
Comments (30)Thanks everyone, for all the nice comments. Myrle, how nice to hear from you! You are right, I moved here to the Michigan U.P. in June of 2008 and we bought our wooded camp property in October of that year. We have built a little primitive cabin and lots of gardens there! It's much different than the gardens at home, because I avoid the hostas at camp. The deer just love them too much. We garden in berms, and lots of containers of all kinds (we actually have two boats, a 14 footer and a 16 footer, that we have set up as gardens)! We go for all the color we can, and try to have many flowers blooming during every part of our way too short summers. I'll try to figure out somewhere I can post some photos for you. No hostas, so probably not appropriate for this forum!...See MoreLiberty can get quite large eh?
Comments (17)My Liberty did beautifully for the first couple of years and I figured I would have something like yours by now, Ken. For some reason, it has come back smaller the last couple of years. I planted this particular one for Papou, so it has been there for a good number of years....See Moremoongirl54
