Well, I don't even have all my hostas in the ground yet, and I'm already making my wish list for next year. Sad, but in true hostaholic form, right?!?!?!? So check it out and let me know if I have any trouble-makers on the list. So far, here's what I'm longing for:

Ok Tanya, this is really weird. I've been working on an order I'm going to place next week, looking at pictures, going over lists etc. A couple days ago a solid green hosta popped into my head and I couldn't get it out. It was shiny, medium sized, bright green. I thought it would be a perfect break from the more varigated ones. I tried to think if I'd seen anything like this. I was thinking I'd drempt it and wondering why someone didn't sell this exact plant. I've looked at "lists" of green, looked through all my books but couldn't find it or anything even similar. The picture is very clear in my head. When I was looking over your list above, I checked out the ones I didn't know on the Library. There it is, third picture down of Norwalk Chartreuse! It's spooky....I'm ordering it. McT

Well, it's kind of a short list, but considering it's not even Labor Day yet and you are making a list for next year,
I guess it's a good start. lol - keep at it!
I just ordered Lucy and Ethel too.

Barbra, A Dwarf Singapore Pink will be a great addition to your beds. It color is muted but mine blooms so much it makes up for it in volume and the fragrance is noticeable when near the plant. See the pic below. it sat in full sun all summer without a single scorched leaf or sun damage. I may have some cuttings in the spring depending on how it needs to be shaped and what i can cut since there are 3 sets of seed pods. If I have cuttings in the spring I'll start one for you. I'm also trying out the JJ "mini" series with a mini white and mini devine. They are still pretty small but doing well. Between the two mini devine is more colorful.

Blends are my favorites! Here are several of my favorite Austin blends, followed by several HT blends---since I'm not sure which type of rose you prefer. Lady of Shalott (Austin)--apricot/gold/hint of pink and yellow. Molineux (Austin)--changes color a lot. Anywhere from golden yellow with apricot highlights in the center to a crÃÂ¨me/yellow/almost peach center. Munstead Wood (Austin)--my newest love! Well Being--golden yellow with reddish edges. Handsome blooms. Love & Peace (HT)--might need some occasional assistance with a fungicide. Gorgeous blooms. Gypsy Carnival (HT)--love those yellow reverses, but this one does have BS problems. Perhaps Ketchup n' Mustard (or is it Mustard n' Ketchup?) would work better--but I haven't grown it. Elle (HT) Hope that gives you some ideas. Kate

Questions about starting my lawn over next year

Would it hurt your feelings to leave the rye out of your seed mix? Rye complicates the germination phase of a new lawn by tricking you into thinking all the seed is germinating in 7 days. Fescue germinates in about 10 days while KBG takes 15-20 days to germinate. Too many people stop with the daily irrigation after a week and the result is they never get much fescue or KBG. Next season practice good lawn care. Water deeply and infrequently, mow at the mower's highest setting, and fertilize on Memorial Day. You'll be doing the reno in late August so you'll use starter fert with that and then a regular fertilizer after the grass stops growing in November. Morph may have other thoughts, but if you got the soil test in the spring you would still have plenty of time to correct it. I am curious to see your CEC to see if you have sandy soil or something else.

My wish list is always really small. this year i bought a paradigm. 30 % off at a high priced nursury that has all of there hosta in alphabetical order (way cool!!) so i payed around $11.00 for it, and it had at least 8 eyes!! (was really excited!!) when i go to that nursury i dont take a cart with me because i know that i would fill it up!! so i only buy what i can actually carry. unfortunately the people there are so nice, they always want to run and get me a cart, but i tell them no, and then i just stuff my arms and fingers and toes with as many plants that i can possibbly carry and get to the register!! can you imagine what a sight i look like when i finally make it in line? my arms are aching and my back is killinmg me!! and the ever so nice girl at the register always says "sir, you do know that we have carts here dont you?" (i just laugh) and tell her that i am only allowed to buy what i can physically carry. all of there plants look great!! and all of the time!! (and so does there thyme)

I was really hoping to find St Paul and Olive Bailey Langdon, so i settled for third place which was Paradigm!
which I am sure that i am going to really like!!

IMHO ... fan dance from herb is a look alike to gold standard from pauline ....

knockout is a loser ... except for the one person who will post a fantastic picture...

there are a lot of purple petiole plants.... find purple passion and skip little black scapes .... completely non-descript green hosta with a neat name.. and alleged black scape ..... purple passions will knock your socks off ...

border bandit is a look alike to .... carp.. gotta walk outside ..... BRB .... never mind... was thinking border bandit... b patrol is fine ...
