Thanks for the valuable feedback. The image looks normal on my IPad so it is good to know how it looks on different computing devices. The app is in its infancy so any input is helpful. This app allows you to take a picture from your phone and post directly from it. Thanks again. Gail

Gail, if you use the Garden Web Hosta Forum to upload the image file, it automatically resizes it.

It must be that the app does like Flickr or Photobucket and sends the HTML code? And that gives the full size of the photo? Way above my head here, but if you are seeing it on your IPad and it is "normal size" how does that translate into huge on my 23 inch monitor running Windows 7?

Does this mean I could put the app on my Android tablet, take a picture with my 5 mp camera, and upload it directly to wherever I want it to go? Like GWeb or even Flickr?

Fascinating. And it sounds so easy.

When my tablet gets back from the repairs, I'll check out the forum and see how the picture looks on the Android.

The app sends the html code. The image is at it's natural size. It was taken on a Droid X. It's an 8 megapixel camera so that seems to account for the large size.

The intent of the app is to allow posting from anywhere a connection is available. The pictures can be taken at any time, but the actual post needs a connection.

The feedback here suggests allowing image sizing would be useful. Thanks much for all the feedback.

John, you are a pretty good teacher of self, I think the Android is a new venue for talent such as yours. It is something that will be so helpful, avoid downloading to computer, etc, just let it fly.

If it is possible to add tags to the information, that would also be useful. Like I take a picture and want it to be a closeup, which means I cannot get the name of the hosta in the frame. Being able to add such a tag to each shot would make this app totally awesome. I'd always know what I was looking at. For us, it is not about "face recognition." And, it would be useful to folks who want to put an address into a picture of a house, while they are out house hunting. Another possible market for your app?

I can get the full image on my Nexus7, and it is wonderfully clear when I zoom in to see each hosta.

But here on Garden Web on my computer, which is displaying wide 16 x 10 ratio, your photo as well as the whole darn page of posts requires scrolling left to right.

If you want to see full pic in orig post on your screen - hold ctrl key down and keep pressing minus(-) key until pic fits screen. To reverse process - hold ctrl key down and keep pressing plus(+) key until text is size that you want.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel in middle - try holding ctrl key down and spinning wheel to resize.

I was able to see the whole pic on my computer after reducing the page from 100% to 50%. But then I couldn't read the messages parts.

Lovely picture too. Great quality. Don't think I'll ever need to have more than 8 mp on any digital camera.

yup, had to scroll both left and right and up and down to see the entire pic.

I'm on a pretty old 'puter and suspect that it's an 800x600 display, and that's probably even lower than today's smarty-pants fones in landscape mode.

Somewhere in the past few busy months I lost what the purpose of this potential app is.

To post here on GW? That would be super, since now I have to send a pic up to, say, PhotoBucket, then go find it and copy a link and then go back here to find the appropo thread, paste the link to the pic, and so forth and so on, it's a wonder this whole thing ever keeps going, YA THINK?

HH- that pic is a loooooooooooog way from 800x600. It is 3264x2448. I don't own a smarty-pants phone, but I do have a smarty-pants desktop computer so we can play games with a big video card and a sub-woofer. Now I'm going nuts learning how to tweak, pinch, tap, and swipe a new tablet. Getting old is HARD TO DO.

No wrapping here. The size of the screen that the person who firsts posts a message uses, (apparently) determines what we all get for the whole thread... I think.

hostahillbilly - The intent of the app is to allow posting directly from a smartphone. Watching my wife struggle through the path you described just to post a picture prompted the idea of the app. That and I needed something to work on in order to learn how to write smartphone apps.

I think babka is correct in saying the words do not wrap due to the width of the largest thing on the page, in this case it's the image at the top. The plan is to have the app prompt for a width and size when the image is larger than say 1024x768, but now I may turn that down to 800x600.

Thanks for the run at allowing us smartypants fone users the opportunity to direct send fotos to this forum. There a at least two other Hosta foto email lists (a little different that this forum) that could use such an app, but due to their 'nature' there would have to be an 'auto-magic' re-sizing routine since they both need around 100kb pics, since there's too many participants still on good-'ol'-dial-up, OUCH!

P.S., even us back-woods hillbillies have figured out and are capable of '3G' so can handle 1 meg or so pics.

It IS costly, though, so we still respect those still on 'dial-up'.

I'm learning here too. Had no concept of the line width being dependent on the largest thing (i.e., the image) on the page. But it makes sense.

Are there any people here still on dial-up? It would take forever to download most of these posts with pics embedded. I get frustrated downloading some of the threads now because it takes so long to get to the end where I can see the last post. I'm on a DSL line.

I am trying to understand why you want to view garden pictures on a tiny phone screen, when I can see it much larger on my PC. How can you appreciate nature on a tiny screen? I have a fast DELL PC and RoadRunner Broadband, no problems here. We happily got rid of cellphone plans many years ago, now have Tracphones only in our cars for emergencies. (In my past work life I was in high speed controls).

Bernd- I think the app is so that if you take a photo of a fabulous garden, using your smart phone as the camera, you can send it to this forum for all of us to see on our computer monitors.

I manually scaled the image down 1024x768. It's much lower resolution, i.e., not as sharp in it's detail, but the posts should be much easier to read now.

Interesting - The photo is not too large on my computer,in fact, it only takes up about 1/3 of the screen. Why? Ihaven't a clue as I know as much about these electronc trinkets as I do about the dark side of the moon.

So, you can edit the photo as well as the text. I thought with the GWeb uploader, when you edited your post, it removed the photo. But apparently you can edit both items. Cool. Way to go GWeb AND Dr. John.
