Grape Fizz anyone?
Comments (13)Ahhh, Ken, they do feed newsprint to cows. But they put molasses on it.....rather like sorghum molasses. And they eat it. Put on weight. Holy Cow, Batman! DD, there are a lot of folks here who keep their photos on Photobucket and Flickr mainly, but a few in other places. Look for the photos by Steve_Mass who makes gorgeous albums to slideshow, and Pieterje, and Ludisia, and HostaFreak/Phil who takes good shots too. I do not have the links to their albums, but if you find a photo of theirs in a thread, click on it and you will be taken to their albums. As good a way as any to spend breakfast, browsing a garden worth displaying. I have a very disorganized Flickr photostream, using this same screen name, you are welcome to flip through it. However, my plants are one and two year olds for the most part. The recent arrivals have kicked me up a notch on the maturity scale though, because of them divided from mature specimen. I've been potting up all morning, stopped for lunch, had to take a computer pause for an hour to let myself cool off. I have six more very large hosta to pot up still, and of 5.5 big bags of MiracleGro, I am using the 3d and 4th, with one bag left unopened. That's for backup. I want to never run out of potting mix. Since I mentioned that Lederhosen is a similar leaf to Grape Fizz especially later in the year, I'll post a shot of it when it becomes smooth and dark as shiny green patent leather. It was in a lot of shade to get this dark. I'll also put a link to Don Rawson's lists here for your browsing pleasure. He's the List Master ! Comments (2)Wow, what a great idea! At first I thought, yeah right. But a search turned up the Steam Team and their web site specifically addresses not only tile, but Saltillo and they will clean and seal (though I have a bottle of sealant...) Forgot to mention that I did try that stupid "as seen on tv" scunci steamer and got nowhere. LOL, it wouldn't clean my upholstery or the countertop. And it barely made a dent in de-wrinkling clothing. I will say it did help the bathroom grout. But not enough to warrant having yet another appliance in the house. So, hopefully the Steam Team will have a super steaming device that will make my tile beauteous again. Thanks so much for the advice!...See MoreOut and about on a Saturday morning
Comments (14)Gorgeous! I'm so envious. Thank you! My Golden Tiaras (noob gardener, first hostas) really haven't thrived--but I took these huge, healthy 1 gallon plants and divided each one up when I planted them in the spring. In retrospect, don't know that I would've done that, but they're hanging in there. I didn't catch on to the absolute necessity for Sluggo in the Pacific NW until late in the season... Totally don't mean to hijack your thread, but lots of hosta lovers here, and if anyone has some suggestions for small/medium, fast-growing varieties (I rent), would love the input. Especially if they're "vase-shaped" (more upright than spreading--small space). Like the chartreuse of Guac, also variegated gold-green-blue (not white-green like Patriot etc., I'm weird). Weird, twisty leaves and the like welcome. Also looking for recs that are exceptionally hardy, any shape/size: I have a low-lying region that is dense, wet clay, despite my best efforts to amend; only a red twig dogwood and carex obnupta are really working--even three two-year-old goatsbeard aren't cutting it. It's not fenced in, and the only area where I let my pup wander, too, so subject to nitrogen abuse (though I'd protect the young). Love your selections, @DelawareDonna Zone 7A; if any of those fit the bill, please let me know!...See MoreOut and About on a Monday Evening

'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is. Or; DD's pep talk to her hosta garden each morning. ;-} Looking GREAT! Jon...See MoreUser
