I love all these pics. Thanks everyone! The PG Hydrangea is stunning. You all have such lush and green gardens and flowers! (sigh...) Mine isn't so pretty this year with heat and drought. My plants are damaged, chewed up and scorched and most of the grass in brown or completely dead & gone, but I am now enjoying a few blooms on lots of plants. :) It has suddenly turned chilly here in Oklahoma, and we actually got a little rain today. I hope this chilly, November-like weather takes out all the chewing insects and I get some undamaged blooms before our first freeze comes. Here are just a few pics of some of my flowers blooming now. Bug ridden, I know, but I am happy to see flowers after the long, hot summer with hardly any blooms at all! Rosa, Double Delight just finished blooming: Rosa, Belinda's Dream Rosa, Iceberg 'Nana' Butterfly Bush (so fragrant!) Black and Blue Salvia, Fanick Phlox and Coleus Blooming: Knock out rose - 'Sunshine' Knock Out rose - Pink (sparsely) my one Cactus Zinnia (has bloomed non stop all summer) Salvia, 'Victorian Lace' Salvia, 'Blue Bedder' Salvia, 'Coral Nymph' Salvia, 'Lady in Red' Salvia, 'Blue Spires' (after being cut way back, 2nd blooming) 'Black and Blue' Salvia (after being cut way back) Pentas - Magenta, pink and red (non-stop all summer) Cleome, 'White Queen' Angelonia, white Butterfly Bush, 'Nana' Rosa, 'Belinda's Dream' Rosa, 'Midas Touch' Rosa, 'Iceberg' Rosa, 'Cherish' Rosa, 'Joseph's Coat' Rosa, 'Betty Boop' Rosa, 'Lady Elsie Mae' Aster, 'Dragon' (cobalt blue)- just beginning Aster, 'Magic' (deep blue violet) - just beginning Periwinkles (white and soft coral) 'Bright Lights' Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' Coreopsis (sparsely) 'Zagreb' (threadleaf) Coreopsis 'Blue Beard' Spirea - so pretty! Morning Glories - volunteers in blues and purples Petunias 'White Cascade' - non-stop since May Petunias, pink and Cerise - volunteers (non stop all summer) 'Pink Gown' Tall Phlox 'Fanick' Tall Phlox (after being cut way back 4 wks ago Marigold, lemon yellow (really pretty) Bright pink with gold Four O'Clocks - just came into full bloom - gorgeous! Pansies (several delicious colors) & tiny yellow violas. All the above Roses & Coreopsis only have a few small blooms per plant due to the stress they were under all summer, but they are giving it their all to make one last bloom. Voles took out three of my roses this past week. I'm sick over it. (grrrr) The Salvias are a big surprise! All but the Victorian Lace, Blue Bedder and Blue Spires are all new seedling plants that came up in late August. Amazing for them to be blooming so soon. Their colors are vivid! ~Annie

Planted out: Poppies, Sweet William, Rose Campion, Larkspur, Hollyhocks, Columbine, Coreopsis, Gloriosa Daisy (only ONE sprout came up) Sprouted but not planted: Cleome, Echinacea, Amaranthus, Snapdragons, Petunias, Verbascum, Breadseed poppy, morning glory (most got killed by frost), and butterfly pea (again, ONE sprout). Also DH has one KY Coffee tree sprout up. No signs of life from: Poached eggs, Gerbera daisy, shasta daisy, salvia, celosia, catmint, Catalpa, Osage Orange tree, and 6 other flats of Ky Coffee tree. Some flats I know dried out or were eaten by dogs. Also have direct sowed: Foxglove and Bells of Ireland (no signs of life yet) and Cosmos (sprouted good, but then died). All in all, I'd say that WS was a pretty good success considering that basically I put the containers out on the deck in Jan and ignored them until March. I'm not very good at remembering to water.....

actually i don't have much in bloom-- milkweed is finishing. jens monk rugosa is re blooming. day lilies just finished. rubeckia just burst forth yesterday, golden-rod is about to pop open, rose of sharon is going all out. st john'swort is just finishing too, ditto with torch lillies(yellow), and the orange and yellow echinacias i got this spring. seems every this is just not at the right timew this year. i found some japanese anenomes-- thought those were goners from the 2005 swap--right where i planted them and some pink foxglove popped up too. we leave on vacation in a week so i hope to cut grass, tame weeds and leave it like that. because school starts again and life become complex all over. i got a boat load of fancy roses as a treat to myself and finally got them planted on fathersday weekend. they were bare root roses from wayside and all already blooming: pat austin, cary grant, easy livin', marmalade skys, honey dijon, julia child, something that i forget and ebb tide-- ebb tide was a freebie.i think they will all get a year in the ground and next spring i'll be bringing ebb tide, and honey dijon to the spring swap. ebb tide is a muddy purple-- reminds me of dried blood and honey dijon is just about the shade of dijon mustard-- grey poupon to be sure-- not excited about either. all these roses have been in bloom for about 2 weeks which just blows me away as they started out as sticks less than 4 weeks before. plants are small, flowers are small and slightly irregular, but imporve with each bloom. pat austin is a bit droopy but this i gather is how she behaves. mostly this year i'm working at week abatement. i've got a lot of what i want where i want so now is the time to let it grow a bit. more later. i'll see folks in the spring, got a catering to do on the weekend of the fall swap. alison great pictures-- i always like to see what you post because of your pictures. diggerb

I had nothing blooming for a long time but it's looking better now.

I have asters, obedient plant, orange cosmos, roses, sedums, zinnias, balloon plant and golden marguerite is blooming again, perennial ageratum, agastaches, goldenrod and sages.

The snakeroot is amazing this year, this is one of the wild patches blooming in the yard:

Not too much is blooming now-summer was not a good season for my flowers, although I enjoyed the drier & cooler weather. There's still some phlox, Japanese anemone, Envy & other zinnias, Indigo spires salvia, blue bedding salvias, Amaranth "Hot Biscuits", dahlias, mums, annual scabiosa, sage, strawflowers, Solidago "Fireworks", "Strawberry Fields" gomphrena, Japanese lanterns, Asclepias curassavica, & crocosmia.

Got my first ever bloom on the phlox I got from a friend a couple of years ago. So nice to see that it is a lovely lt. pink/purple - not lavendar but not pink either.

Also have coreopsis "Mouse Ear", miniature patio roses, tuberous begonias, sedum Matrona (well, what's left of it that didn't fall over from the abundant rain early in its growing season!), purple petunias that just surfaced a couple of weeks ago & are now in bloom (left overs from wheelbarrow planting 2 years ago!) and an airy spreading groundcover with little pink flowers that for the life of me I cannot remember the name.

Believe it or not, my nasturtiums are still going strong! Still plenty of toad lilies, forget-me-nots, plumbago, BES. Picked a vase full of roses and still had a large amount of petals to dry, and the Pink Fairy is loaded with blooms. The Polish Spirit clematis is still going. And in the alleyway, all the red-n-golds are going strong; marigolds, calendula, gaillardia, painted daisies and coreopsis. There's even a few cupid's darts I WS that I wasn't expecting to see until next year!

Looking pretty good for October!
