This is to all my new gardener friends. I'll be at Demonyes at 8:30. I'll be the lady with the pink gardening gloves on and a fanny pack. Would love to say hello to a gardenwebber.

I realize I just joined but feel like I've been here forever. I've been a lurker for about three years now.

I've been afraid to join for fear of becoming addicted to posting..and my work wouldn't be to happy.

Lurked for 3 years? My my. Have you ever wondered if you ever saw other GWers at Garden Events in your area?

I read you mem page. I retired about 8 years ago, and now am busier than ever. I'm afraid to say that I became addicted to GW soon after I joined. My first found addiction after joining was an interest in growing a variety of tomatoes in my garden. I've always grown tomatoes, and canned for years, but didn't know that there are maybe 10,000 different varieties. I know have a collection of about 250 different ones and soon need to narrow the field on what I need to Winter Sow soon.

I was up until the wee hours of the morning researching tomatoes, for weeks on end initially.

Do you Winter Sow?...another wonderful addiction I hear.

Then there are the Exchange Forums here...another wonderful addiction...lol

Seed and Plant trading...watch out! Way too much fun to ever stop oneself.

There are several free seeds for postage (sase or sasbe-self addressed stamped bubble envelope) offers at the Seed Exchange, and at Winter Sowing.

If you trade or use a lot of the boards, you might want to change your email settings (Go to Member Pages link at the very bottom of any page here and follow the links). It is best to set them to show email to Members only, and allow others to email you via the forms at GW. There is no email link or way to email you as your page is now.

I hope you will be a regular here.

My husband and I are going to go but probably not until afternoon. There is a local nursery down the street from us in Powell, Fortmeyers and Sons and they too are having a really cheap perennial sale tomorrow. So we're going to hit them both up. Fortmeyers has a limit on how many you cana buy. Do you know if DeMonyes has a limit?

Wow, you guys make me feel lucky! I thought everyone had something similar nearby. And it is nearby, it is actually within walking distance from my home and conveniently/dangerously located between work and home. It is a great place and as there are times when I stop in at least once a week, they know me there -so I do benefit from the occasional, unexpected regulars discount. My wife usually works Saturdays, so that is when I often go and when I am there by myself, it is very easy to spend at least 3 hours there. The problem is in trying to go home with only one plant. Of course then I obsess over what I did not buy and usually end up going back the next day for just one more plant. As a non-big box, locally owned store, they are a little on the pricey side. But, it always feels good to "buy local". Plus, as a non-big box, they actually take good care of their plants and actually know something about what they sell. They do usually have a great selection of 2" and 4" starter plants that are priced right, so that is usually what I go home with. Also, the quick pics I snapped were just of the houseplant area. They have quite an extensive selection of outdoor perennials and annuals as well. Mike: To contribute the jungle feel, there is a large green parrot that has free reign of the place. I was actually able to Google Image search a 2 pics of him/her: greybird: The name is Sturtz and Copelandhref>. They are located at 2851 Valmont in Boulder. If you are going to drive from Denver to Boulder and want a real treat, you should make time to stop at the Butterfly Pavilionhref> in Westminster. Thanks again! Fruits would be good! Trees/shrubs especially. I will definitely be paying CN a visit in the spring. Of course there's raspberries and figs here already. Ok, I admit, I'm looking for fru-fru ornamental shrubs, variegated foliage, and more Coleus, haven't seen a store with more than a handful of varieties, house plants & tropicals, ramblin' roses (up to my limit of knockouts!) Also having a terrible time trying to find butterfly host and nectar plants. I've lived here 5 years and still no Asclepias! Trying to get a slip of my Mom's passion vine before the GF cats eat it all has been tricky, it would be so much easier to buy half a dozen plants. Where are all of the Flax, Silene, Phlox (tall and creeping,) daylilies, beautiful variegated Lamium, Monarda, Veronica, Polemonium, Baptisia, Brunnera, Thalictrum, Dicentra, Hostas, Columbine, etc...? Haven't seen Heliotrope or Streptocarpella since moving down here. (Going by memories of OH, some of these may not work in AL...) Flats of perennials in general seem like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Was pretty good this year, altho' I mangaged to limit myself to just one flat. Bakemom, did you know Baker's Acres now has an outpost in the Short North, on High Street? They didn't have many plants yet when I stopped in a few weeks ago, but I still picked up a nice (expensive) coleus and a (cheap)replacement rosemary.

Tee-hee! I may run into you, Diana! I love this sale -- right up there with their perennial clearance sale in the summer. Normally, Demonyes is too expensive for me, but I love the sale prices. The four-packs are like winter-sown seedlings -- small but mighty. I happened to see an ad on TV for the sale this year, and heard the name pronounced for the first time. I've been saying "Dee-MOYNZ", like the city in Iowa but with an "s" on the end. Turns out it's "dee-MAHN-yeez" -- turns out I've been spelling it wrong all ths time! Looking forward to the sale; Friday's payday. I'll try and leave some plants for the rest of you....

Well we made it out alive and bought about 100 more plants than we had planned. It was our first time but well worth the trip. What a great sale. I'm so glad I happened to have today off...that never happens. I imagine its going to be a mad house tomorrow.

Well I went to the sale Friday and left with 5 flats. Two were for other people. Knowing that I really didn't need the three I bought I went back Sunday and bought another flat. ((Hi..I'm a flower addict)) Sunday there were only a few people there. They had so much left. I did ask if they were going to honor the price after Sunday and was told more than likely they will.

Also, Sue you mentioned winter sowing, yep..this is my first year trying it. I looked at my member page and noticed that my favorites sites are changed. Humm...wonder what happened..It should have said winter sowing and Ohio Valley forum.
