Hallson's will come up most. In the last couple of years, there's no question they've gotten the most kudos.

This year I've ordered from NH Hosta, Hallson, Naylor Creek, Land of the Giants, Hosta Patch, Hostas Direct, Mason Hollow, Garden Breeze, Jim's Hostas, Hosta Liners, and Country Boy Hostas. All are online sources. Each have their strengths and some have drawbacks.

You can't go wrong with Hallson. Great customer service and good sized plants, probably the best sized plants for those that are not field grown divisions.

Naylor Creek has great plants also and a wide variety. They probably have more hard to find cultivars than Hallson.

Jim's has an extensive variety of cultivars. Plants are often field grown divisions. My plants from them this year were flaccid upon arrival. They've since recovered and are doing fine.

NH Hostas also have good prices and good plants. Their plants are greenhouse grown and usually one eye each. They also sell small "starter" plants which are very small.

Hosta Liners sell small plants, but also have 4.5 inch potted "market ready" plants. I had good luck with those this year.

Country Boy Hostas is one I would not use again. I ordered three plants from them this year and all were very small and have struggled.

Hosta's Direct sell small plants at small prices. They take longer to get established.

Hosta Patch had some good plants that have done well. Their super sized plants are more expensive and are multi-eyed and establish well.

LOTG had difficulty with the weather this Spring and shipped late. As a result some of the plants from them have not done well, others have established quickly. Their plants are field grown and good sized.

Mason Hollow has become one of my favorite sources for Hostas. Great selection, great customer service, good sized plants that are shipped quickly and arrive in good shape. Every plant I ordered from them this year has done well. I ordered three times from them, and will go back for more next year.

So it depends on what you want. Smaller prices mean smaller plants that take longer to get established. You can't go wrong with Hallson, Naylor Creek and Mason Hollow, IMO.

Hallsons has great stuff and I'm told they'll even sell stuff not necessarily on their available list. Be sure to send Chris a message and have him look at your wish list.

This year, I've ordered from:
Hallson's--biggest plants, but not the newest of varieties. I think Chris likes to know how well they grown before he starts selling them.
Naylor Creek--lots of the newer varieties. Decent size plants, but not as large as Hallson's... pretty much cuz they're newer varieties.
Jim's--huge variety, decent size plants, not as large as Hallson's. Plants arrive "floppy" and less-than-fresh. Seems like they might have sat in the package for a while.
Glenbrook Farms--lots of variety. Will divide from mature stock and send a minimum of 2 eyes from mature division. Like Hallson's, Viktoria will also look at your list and let you know what she can divide.
In The Country Garden & Gifts. Plants arrived fresh and happy. Smaller than other vendors, but I only ordered newer varieties... they were cheaper on some than other vendors.

Hostas Direct-operates locally but ships. They sell very small, liner size plants and I don't think the price difference is worth the size difference.
Venero Gardens-operates locally, also ships. Most everything is in the ground. So, it'll either be dug up fresh the day of shipping or divided the day of shipping. Fantastic folks, running a wonderful operation there.
Savory's-operates locally, but ships. Lots of availability, but prices are inflated IMO.

I've ordered from Hallson's, New Hampshire Farms, and White Oak Nursery. Very happy with the quality and customer service. The majority of my hostas in the past five years have come from Hallson's. They are very up to the minute involved with the fight against HVX.

Hallson's, absolutely the best. I've ordered from quite a few others, but I always check Hallson's first to see if they have what I am looking for, if not then I check the others

Bridgewood Gardens is a nursery I use a lot. Their plants come in pots and very well wrapped. Everyone I have told about them, who has ordered has been very happy!
