Red-vined berries

I have just moved onto 4.67 acres of land and will probably have some questions on a few of the wildflowers. Currently, though, I am more interested in a section of berries growing under/within the branches of a small apple tree. The berries have red stems, running from the ground all the way to the grouping of berries. The grouping of berries (though at this point in the season they are mostly gone) are still green at the tip, the ones in the middle are green with some redness in them, and the ones at the top are dark blue, like blueberries. However, I only know of blueberries to be in a viny sort of pattern and in larger "groupings". I'm not sure how to post the picture on here, but if I can figure it out I will add a picture. Any help on this would be nice. I'm a big berry lover and eater!

Blueberries are shrubs and not vines; could be short or tall, depending on the blueberry species.

I'm not sure if this plant is located in your state but it sounds like "Virginia Creeper", a vine that will grow up into trees and over thickets of shrubs. It's leaves are palmate, consisiting of usually 5 leaflets, the berries are initially green but turn dark blue when ripe and the stems attached to the berries turn orange and then bright red in autumn. As well the palmate leaves turn crimson in autumn. Their berries are pallitable to birds but I don't think YOU will want to eat them. The vine is quite ornamental for it's autumn colours, so if you like you may want to take it down from the tree and plant it closer to your house either as a ground cover or on a trellis so you can enjoy it while it isn't bothering your apple tree.

It looks like Winterberry Holly, Ilex verticillata. That's not backed up by any evidence except that's what it looks like to me and I would expect it to be fairly common in NY state. They are largish, forest understory shrubs. WW Here is a link that might be useful: Winterberry holly

Hi Gang, I found a native vine 2-3 years ago with bright red berries, sort of translucent red, and shiny. I cleaned up the fruits and each one had a single unique seed. So, it was easy to identify the vine as Moonseed Vine, or Carolina Moonseed Vine--even though it grows wild in the greather Houston area. I put the seeds out in the top 1/4 or 1/2 inch of good potting soil, in a gallon container and left them over winter--exposed to the rain and sun. The seeds germinated in spring and after the tops were a few inches high I put them up into individual containers for another year. Then, I planted them out. The vine is not exactly slow growing, but it is a well behaved vine--not at all rampant. It will grow to the top of a small tree (plum tree) or over some shrubs and is mostly not noticeable until the berries ripen. Then it is very attractive.
