ladyblues.............i am rooting the following hib. now: peppermint schnapps turn of the century flare red dinnerplate noid hot pink dinnerplate also have: noid solid white dinnerplate white tx. star..........this is a maybe as my plant was a seedling last year and doesn't have that many branches this year. all of the hib. i listed are already in pots.......most going on their 2nd week.....the pink just a week and the white ones i haven't started. lmk if any of that interests you. i also have hundreds of bearded iris of all colors.....double scoop, splash of blue, candy rock to name a few. how big are your trees, by the way? i am wanting these for my sister to help landscape her post office lot as she is a postmaster in a nearby town. also, i am leaving for a week tomorrow. i won't start any more hib. until i get back. so if you are up for a late summer/early fall trade lmk. or if you prefer tb iris i can send those when i get back. lmk. barb

Crepuscule is one of those roses that just love the South. Love warmth and humidity. (Not so happy in coastal SoCal.) Beware of Manchester Guardian Angel, tho. That will become very very prickly. Also note that "Manchester Guardian Angel" is sold under that name by Vintage (who got it from Joyce Demits, who discovered it in Manchester, CA). It has also appeared in commerce as "Georgetown Lemon-White Tea," and as: � "Georgetown White Noisette" � "Half-Moon Bay Yellow" AND as: � "Legacy Of Joseph Marcilino" So, knowing that it has been found in three WIDELY separated early California cemeteries, you'd THINK we'd have figured out by now what it is. But, Nooooooo .... I learned all that AFTER I bought it from two nurseries, under two different study names. Jeri

Nastarana, Florence Bower's is on HMF (but no pictures). I can never get it to come up with the whole name typed in, even with quotation marks. The easiest way for me to find it is to just type in "Florence" and scroll down. I am sorry to have not taken and posted some pictures of blossoms on HMF when mine was in bloom this summer -- too busy -- but will do so when the next bloom comes around. I like it -- the color here, so far, ranges from ivory with warm peachy pink tones (in the first flush, especially) to pink, getting pinker as it ages. My plant is only two years old and just one year in the ground, so it is much too young to know how it really is. This first year in the ground, it has had three flushes of blooms, put up two 8' canes, and has had spotless leaves, so I don't think it gets powdery mildew too readily, the main scourge here. Thus far, my sense is that this is probably going to be a good rose. ~Debbie

It IS scented but how strongly is variable.....often scent is encouraged or discouraged by siting and with other types of clem, scent seems to be highly determinant on provenance. If the mother plant the seeds or cuttings were derived from is highly scented, the offspring will generally be so as well. Sun tends to amplify scent, so a shadier location may not produce as strong a fragrance. Are you planting this from seed? If so, I'm not sure I'd direct sow. This is a big, vigorous native vine and you only need one :-) Maybe start the seeds in small seed starting containers, then pick the healthiest and most robust to plant out. Parts of many clematis are considered toxic, mostly the foliage (contains an alkaloid, clematine) but there is nothing about the plant that would attract kids to consume it - no berries or interesting looking pods - so I would not be overly concerned. FWIW, the vast majority of common garden plants are toxic to some degree or another so it is a very good idea to train small children early on NOT to put any plant parts in their mouths unless approved by mom and dad!!
