While browsing the mouth-watering web site of Plant Delight nursery I saw Polymnia canadensis which is native. I'd never heard about this specific plant but I would greatly like to secure some seeds of it. Do you knnow any sources where I could find seeds to buy or to trade? I'd rather sow it than import it from the States with all the papers to comply to before to get it...phyto; bla,bla,bla...
The photo at the Plant Delights site look lovely, but the flowers of Polymnia are fairly variable. Some flowers have none of the showy ray flowers, or only short rays. (See the link below or type "Polymnia canadensis" into images.google.com to get a sense of the range of Polymnia flowers.) This trait is probably genetically determined, so, assuming you do want showy flowers, you should try to find out what the flowers on the parent plant looked like.
I saw the photos and description of this plant in his catalog last year. Though I always leap at the obscure, rare and native, I wasnt thrilled with this one or compelled to purchase it. It is definitely a collector's plant, but wonder if it will be handsome in the garden. Keep us posted as to a seed source!
