Experience with wildflowers in sand? NOT desert. I want some.

We have 5.25 acres of white pine woods, 1 quarter mile from Mississippi River near Oquawka Illinois. No soil there...100% sand. I want to plant wildflowers - Jack-in-pulpit, Dutchmans britches, cone flower, wild phlox etc.

Everything I read says, full sun (very limited) fertile soil (huh uh, none). Pine needles cover much of the place, several inches thick, so we are also talking about some acid there.

One wonderful thing is, there is still some native Prickly Pear which I baby.

I'd appreciate any experience with this particular environment or any suggestions.
