Great pics. Here in my new home I have one pink lady slipper and half a dozen single leaf native orchids called adders mouth. Not very showy but unusual. It was years before I knew what they were but I also have the dwarf native pawpaw.

Hello Danny, Besides ebay and Craig's List, here are a few other suggestions for selling excess terrestrial orchids: Try the terrestrial orchid forum. Scroll down to the section labeled "Plant Exchange." Don't be misled by the word "Exchange." The terrestrial orchid forum allows plant sales in addition to exchanges. Although catering more to the tropical orchid crowd, you can also place a free classified ad at the Orchid Mall's unclassified ads section. If you find the service helpful, it is requested that you make a voluntary $1.00 donation. If you go this route, NEVER use your real email address. Unfortunately, spammers scour such free classified sites to acquire email addresses. Make sure you use a throw-away email address from Yahoo or Google. Botanic gardens offer another opportunity for sales. If one is near you, check to see if it might be worth registering as a vendor at the garden's annual sale. If the garden puts out a quarterly bulletin, check to see if the bulletin includes ads (especially classified ads). Finally, green markets offer yet another venue for sales. Note that botanic gardens and green markets generally charge you to sign-up as a vendor. Since growing native terrestrial orchids is such a highly specialized garden activity, it might not be profitable to sell only terrestrial native orchids (especially if they are not in flower). But if you have other wildflowers or interesting plants for sale, these are two options worth pursuing. Good luck. Rufino

Craig, In NC it is not illegal to dig up/kill any plant on private property, only on state/US owned land, such as where highways will be located, etc. You can put Round-Up on your entire area, regardless of what endangered plants are there. (With critters, it is a different matter.) Anyway, pink lady slippers WILL transplant if the appropriate care is given when digging, i.e., don't cut the roots at all! New studies seem to indicate that the fungus they need is mostly for germination, not continuing growth. I wish what you stated (the illegality of digging them) were true here. Two years ago on the side of the road someone was selling POTS of pink lady slippers for Mother's Day!! I am sure they did not observe appropriate digging methods. It is so sad to see them that way. In our rescues, we move as many as we can. I have successfully transplanted quite a few that were in a proposed housing development. Most survived, going on eight years. It is worth the chance as they certainly cannot survive with houses sitting on top! BTW, tissue culture is making many of the orchids available commercially, but I don't have the big bucks to buy them. C.reginae and C. paviflorum have been available for many years, and now I am seeing ads for hybrids.
