Bougainvillea help
Comments (3)Hello - Thanks for the reply. Nah, I don't need to cut the branches. Just got a little eager to see some progress. Poor little tree was in pretty bad shape, guess that's why I got it for 75% off. Looking really pretty good now, after being babied for a bit over two months. Did take out some small dead wood branches just to clean it up. Major concern is coming winter and keeping indoor humidity high enough to bring the little gal thru. Oops - forgot to mention - all my little trees have been ladies, just a quirk on my part, with the exception of one I named George. Got him on a visit to Dallas so he was my little Bush from Texas. Another concern is changing pots. The planting medium in the pot seems to be pretty sandy and have a bit of a concern about it crumbling when the move is made. But we shall see. Thanks a bunch, again. marsh...See MoreBougainvillea Styling Help
Comments (1)hmm, tuff one, I agree its very Interesting, but its hard to determine what/where/IF to commit,, i wanna say one of the branches needs to go ultimately, but,, [really need to see about a ~45 degree CCW rotation] [Idealistic Looongshot] Could you take the 'elbow' branch, and fuse it to/near the(elbow) of the right branch in the pic? ..then later remove the (interesting, tho kiiinda awkward,,) excess between the 'hairpin' and fused left branch,,? admittedly, it 'looks' more in proximity that it probbably is from here. ...hey, You asked! lol :)...See Moredesperately need privacy
Comments (5)Cheap, reliable, reasonably fast (water for good growth) = Ligustrum japonicum, AKA Privet, available at any big box store, Plant them about 3' apart and at least 30" away from the fence itself. Give it room to get dense and solid: do not plant it right next to the fence. Now, for INSTANT help until the Ligustrum grow in, you can get opaque fabric to attach to your fence to make the view of the other side go away TODAY (or as soon as the order comes). Google up "privacy fence fabric". It's fairly inexpensive and well worth the money....See MoreBougainvillea help in LA
Comments (2)They definitely appreciate being well-fed at this time of year. And at least five hours of full sun/light a day. With your soil - is it actually dry below the top inch of soil? Just wondering in case there is some sort of pan below the surface that could be preventing the good drainage Bougainvillea enjoys so much. If it's present, you might need to take out the plant and dig down to improve the drainage - or build a mound so the roots can spread out without drowning. Feeding: after you've watered you could use a balanced liquid feed that also provides micro-nutrients as well as the usual nitrogen-potassium-phosphorus once a month. And mulch with good compost (bought, if you don't already make your own). If you eat bananas at your house then chopped skins (take off those awful little plastic labels first, please) can be added to the mulch. My guess, from the picture, is that it's hungry and needing both potash and phosphorus. Liquid feed on damp soil plus a good mulch will help in this regard. I'd avoid foliar feeding, though, in case it encourages moulds....See Moretapla (mid-Michigan, USDA z5b-6a)
