Transplanting Siberian Irises now??

I need to transplant clumps of Siberian Irises, in order to reclaim a part of the garden which has gone to "jungle", and the irises are at the moment within the jungle (and in quite a bit of shade!). I know I should wait for later in the summer for the Iris' sake, but doing it now would allow me to tackle the jungle before its growing season, and to be able to taim it with a minimum amount of work!
What should I do to ensure the irises will be happy? Ideally I would like to separate the clumps, of course, but is that reasonable given the wrong timing?
