Name this plant, please

This grass-type plant grows in damp logging roads and pastures... horses won't eat it and neither will burros. It is 1' to 2' tall. Local loggers call it n(word) head. This plant must have a not so awful name. Please help me identify it so I can set folks straight when they use the locally used name.

Juncus effusus, the common rush. Haven't seen that name used in reference to a plant since going through some old plant specimens from Texas circa 1950. Fortunately I've never had to work with anyone like that.

Yes it’s edible. All brassicas are. Whether it’s palatable and how it’s eaten are up to you to decide.

It's very difficult to ID many grasses without seeing blooms and closeups of leaves and roots, but that looks suspiciously like Sorghum halepense, johnson grass. Is that growing in a wild/unmown area? If it's a maintained area, you do NOT want johnson grass in it. It is a very aggressive spreader.
