Impatiens capensis

I love these cute little flowers! They grow along the

banks of my creek, and the migrating Ruby-throated

Hummingbirds swarm them.

They are beautiful, but diminutive. (The flowers are dimunitive, not the plants.)

Did you know the juice from the plant stems can be used as a treatment for poison ivy.

Hi. You can also dry jewelweed-- I. capensis seems to work better this way than I. palida. That way you'll have it when you least expect to need it. For fresh plant or dried, I simmer the herb (a two-handed handful for fresh, a good palmful of dried) in about 2 quarts water for about 20 minutes, then cool & freeze the tea in cubes, but I also throw it in a spray bottle & keep it in the fridge, & it feels soooo good.

Its aggressive, but not really "invasive". I haven't grown intentionally, but it grows all over along the creek banks here. Have you popped the seed heads yet?

Pomme The best way is it leave them out side for the winter. These plants live up in the near arctic realm, so they can take a bit of cold. They then should come up in the spring.

corrosive deer spit. much of what the deer bite dies back at least several inches, if not to the ground, past the bite.

Anybody have any luck growing the yellow one, I. pallida? I have the orange one naturally in the Piedmont but would also like to have the yellow one. I see it in the mts. in NC and have even tried to get it started here, but with no luck. Any suggestions...other than more rain or cooler weather.
