It sure is an appealing plant from an aesthetic standpoint with the tropical-like foliage and huge mid summer flowers followed by clusters of dark fruit. However, it can be a bane in a more cultivated area of your garden due to all those armed shoots coming up everywhere - it is thorny and prolific! Wildlife? I am not sure, but I would think birds and critters will eat the berries. Can it be moved? I dont know how easily, but some suckering shrubs can be hard to move successfully from a colony. I am thinking of plants like Aesculus parviflora and Asimina triloba. Try it and see. Rx

On a winter warmup, instead of putting them in the fridge, I decided to just plant them into some pots. The soil is still below freezing so I don't know how they are doing yet, but in another 2 weeks, I should be able to see which ones have taken.

There is nothing wrong with taking care of an animal that couldn't reasoably be expected to thrive if returned to his/her native environment. Knowledge and preparation are the key. I have 5 Burmese Pythons living in their own large upstairs bedroom. They all came to me as rescues. Three have been with me since 1984. They have their own heating system, plywood sheathed walls, expanded metal gratings on the outside of their windows. Cleaning their room and watering trough are onerous duties that have to be performed weekly. Feeding and electricity to keep them warm are expensive. All things considered, it is an expensive hobby that I love. They have individual personalities, much like cats. Let me add this: we have a responsibility to assure a good life to our pets if we suddenly leave the picture. I have it in my Will; my executrix and my kids all know that I have 2 different individuals lined up to come in and whisk these "special" animals away in the case of my sudden demise.

BeverlyFLADeziner, in the photo on the bottom, are the sashes painted wood or are they a powder coated metal (ie--same material as exterior). I'm not sure what to search for to find more of this look, or what to ask for at a window store. Can an old wood sash window be replaced by this type of updated window, or is the window casement thinner, and possibly would not fit into the original opening?
