moping beautyberry

While I was away at the beach I hired 2 sweet 6th grade boys to water my plants. When I returned everything looked fine except for my little American beautyberry bush which now has some very wilted looking leaves on SOME (but not all) of its branches. I don't think it's a watering problem since there are some branches whose leaves are entirely unaffected--also, I watered it well yesterday just in case and nothing has changed. Has anyone ever had this happen? I planted it last year and it's about 2 feet high--fairly established I'm assuming. Any help is greatly appreciated!

When my new (not established) beauty berry didn't get the water it wanted last summer, it wilted, dropped all of its leaves, then came back gang-busters. This year its not getting any extra water and its currently full of leaves, and little bitty buds! I hope yours pulls through-CJ

Toadlilly, thanks for the info about your beautyberry. Since I originally posted the plant wilted completely and appeared dead. I cut it back completely because it was so ugly but perhaps there's still hope. It was SO hot here this summer--in the 100's for a solid week--that perhaps it was a watering issue after all. Guess I'll see what happens next year!

Just wait til the cooler fall weather (hopefully)-you may not get berries-but you might get "leaves" ;) CJ
