Potential bulb troubles? Newbie issue

Hi, I'm a young aspiring gardener, and I know everyone here has made their mistakes and has their yearly routines down very well, but I have a teeny question that might sound reaaally goofy.

Anyway, I planted a ton of bulbs last fall, and mulched with a hay bale that was leftover from Halloween, and all's well except...

I planted some generic hyacinths on in a southfacing bed and covered them with the hay, and I put some in another bed that I'm preeetty sure gets the same exposure, except unmulched, except I can't even see the uncovered ones, and while shuffling through the hay noticed that the other ones are already 3+ inches tall!

So therein lies my neurosis, I'm afraid that I've confused the bulbs and now that they're trying to start, they're going to be windburnt or something similar.

If I do lose them, they were cheap enough, but of course it'd be nice not to?!

If they're fine, can you put my neurosis to rest? And if it IS entirely too early, what can I do to salvage what I have?
