Cranefly orchid - Tipularia discolor

The flower stalk is up. Here's a picture of the buds along the top of the flower stalk. I'll keep watching and hopefully catch it in full bloom.

I also just noticed a bloom stalk on my rattlesnake plantain (goodyera). Here's a picture (not mine).

I was waiting on seeds of ladies tresses native orchids that grow in abundance in the ditches down the road but the county mowers got them sooooooo,I thought,I'll just dig up a plant....once again Darn Mowers! I have Sabal minor, S. louisiana, and Rhapidophyllum hystrix in containers. I can dig up a piece of double flowered bloodroot. I'm interested in Crane fly orchid and rattlesnake plantain orchid. I can email a pic of the 3 palms if you're interested.

Great pics. Here in my new home I have one pink lady slipper and half a dozen single leaf native orchids called adders mouth. Not very showy but unusual. It was years before I knew what they were but I also have the dwarf native pawpaw.

Oh,I'm jealous! Mine are still to young to bloom.I did however manage to get one goodyera started from seed. I'm babying that little darling,hopingI don't kill it.

County bush hogged down the stand of lady tresses I was watching and waiting for ripe seed. Grrrrrr!!!!

Very hot and dry here. What a nice surprize today, both cranefly orchid and rattlesnake plantain in full bloom. First time they've bloomed in several years. I'm always careful not to let RP get smothered with fallen leaves in the winter. Orchids are so mysterious and that is what makes them special.
