It was answered 6 days ago and ogm responded with thanks. This is the kind of thing that happens when people post on more than one Forum. People following the thread on the 'wrong' forum don't see the outcome. The plant is Hibiscus trionum.

This is one of the ones that my grandson and son saw on the way to school. They called right away and my husband went to pick them up. All together there was about 60 cuttings some of the bigger ones were different mostly yellow but the others about 50 are this color. I just have a problem with not trying to start them all. I need to tell them to stop letting me know that someone put a lot in the trash. My son again find some more last week and dropped them off. Not sure where I am going to put them all. Here is a picture of the last brunch of cuttings. Look in the corner and see the really big piece. I can not believe that it is overwheling at this point. Barb

Hi Danbonsai. Don't believe everything the ecoterrorists want you to believe. That is sandfood, Pholisma sonorae as dephora mentioned. I am one of the offroaders who absolutely love the Southern California dune systems, including the Algadones which we refer to as glamis. Sandfood seems to thrive in the areas the ATVs recreate in with many of us believing the traffic helps to spread the seeds along with a milkvetch whose false endangerment claim shut down many thousands of acres. While we understand direct ATV traffic will damage the top of the plant, there is no denying the plants are still abundant in our Southern dunes and seem to appear more often in trafficked areas verses the closed areas. It is a really neat plant to see in person and one where we generally stop to show the younger kids on the ride.

It seems pretty easy to grow it started with just a few lonely leaves. I always add more perlite to potting soil to aid the drainage.
