If the stems are succulent, jewelweed is a possibility, though I agree the leaves look a little different than those in my yard.

I was going to suggest an aster, but I don't know that asters are shallow rooted. Did you post in the name that plant forum?

I think this got identified on the Name that Plant forum, but I don't remember what it was (it wasn't jewel weed or an aster).

It sdoes look like an aster. The leave are not translucent enough for jewelweed

I think that we have a winner with Enchanter's Nightshade or C. quadrisulcata. Perhaps Royv can get back to us over the Summer and tell us if it has upright spikes of tiny, white flowers to confirm the ID.

I have it all over the wild bit of my woodland, makes a good ground cover.

My reference;An Illustrated Flora of the Northeastern United States and Canada;calls it Circaea lutetiana.I find it to be an early native coloniser of distrubed areas in the woodland setting,showing up right after jewelweed.I prefer the jewelweed though,so sometimes I remove it to promote the growth of less weedy natives.After all the non- native weeds have been elimitated first of course.
