Lonicera canadensis fragrant?

Lonicera canadensis, or (Canadian/American fly honeysuckle) is a plant I am very enthusiastic about.

It is a native bush honeysuckle, and who having once seen its charming twin bells of an April could wish to have any dealings with that rank invasive, the Amur Honeysuckle.

Amur Honeysuckle is not very fragrant, only a little.

Is Lonicera canadensis fragrant though?

What a boon to gardeners if it were!

Also, does anyone know of a reliable source for this plantt?

I, too, fell in love with L. canadensis, and FINALLY, after almost 10 years of looking, found it: Earth Tone Natives, in Connecticut, sell an amazing selection of native plants, and since they're in CT, their natives match with NJ natives pretty well.
Downside is they don't ship. So my husband and I took a nice hour and a half drive up to Woodbury CT and came home with 2 L. canadensis and several other things I hadn't been able to find - Tridens flavus, for one.
For me it was worth the drive, as I hadn't been able to find that Lonicera for love or money. Their garden/nursery is wonderful, and the people are great. The plants came out of the pots healthy and happy, and still are, a month and change later. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

They are Asian but do well here. I bought one at Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill about 10 years ago. It was in a gallon pot, a single stem 12" tall. After 10 years it is 8'tall and 10' in circumference. It blooms Dec-March, buds opening during warm spells. The fragrance travels long distances. You can cut off a budded branch and it will open indoors.I have never fed it or even pruned it, though it can be treated like a hedge plant. Give it plenty of room. Mine does fine in 1/2 sun but would probably have more buds with more sun. It is generally evergreen but will lose leaves if the temps drop below 10F.

Annette beat me to it, but I think Lonicera periclymenum 'Serotina' (also found under the names L. p. var. serotina 'Florida' or just 'Serotina Florida') is really what your looking for, rather than a selection of rampantly aggressive Lonicera japonica. I have one also and the fragrance is quite overwhelmingly wonderful on a warm summer evening, but I'm not sure I'd call it very compact - it's become a pretty big vine in my garden over the years even though I prune it back hard each year at the end of winter. It's a bit early to do any cuttings - softwood taken in June is recommended - but if you get back to me later, I'll see if I can help you out :-) And any hummingbirds that may visit will love it!

Hi, I have only one Heckrotti variety called 'Fire Cracker', it is mildly fragrant during the day, but is strongly fragrant at night. The lovely fragrance reminds me of oriental lilies. I haven't had it long so I couldn't tell you of its growth habits, but it seems to be a vigorous flowerer.

It's not fragrant. I have it. I bought it at Redbud Native Plant Nursery in southeast Pennsylvania Maybe I just can't smell it. I love it though.
