I just got a new wilflower ID book and had come to the thought of it being Delphinium tricorne, then came here to ask if anyone thinks it could be that and read your replies! I think we may have a winner! Thanks!!

From what I see there it looks like a member of the Malvaceae. Have you got a picture of the leaves?

have had cornflower.. bachelor buttons for decades .. self sowing annual for me ... in the garden.. if you grow the blue long enough .. and have lots of plants .. the genetics will start to regress .. if thats the right term.. and you will end up with a few white.. pink .... and purple ones ... but you would have to have 100s of them to probably start seeing this ... ken

spring beauty, Claytonia. I grew up with C. virginica, but yours is likely something different. Here's a series of maps from BONAP which shows all the US Claytonia. Bright green for the county where they occur, dark green if it occurs anywhere in the state. You can find your area and see which species grow in your county, then do a web search for those species to see which matches.
