Karyn, no, i've only gone to El Salvador, which is actually the only Central American country without a Caribbean shoreline. The Pacific Shoreline is just as beautifull though (being within the tropics) and the water is warm as opposed to the bone chilling currents we get here in coastal Cal from the Arctic Ocean. The place i have in El Salvador is in the mountainous region of the country, right near the border with Honduras, so it is about an hour and a half from the coast, and a bit more humid. It is closer to the cloudforest conditions with native Bromeliads and orchids growing in trunks of old trees and stuff! Really a neat place. There are also Jaguars there, but i still waiting to see one. haha.

I have been collecting the seeds when the pods are open, but not bone dry. I have some laying out in the sun now in hopes they will dry out completely, but it seems to be a slow process. A couple of pods have burst today, and I am going to leave them alone until they are completely dried out and see if I get some viable seeds. I'm not sure what the variety is on my whites, they were labeled as Brug's at the nursery when I bought them, so I have no idea what I've gotten! I'm going to try to attach a link to photos of them blooming; they were taken a few hours apart,and maybe someone will recognize them. Datura is shorter than Matilija Poppy, and branching, so it can be a large area plant.... if it likes where it's living. You might try looking for an existing plant later in the summer when the golfball-sized, very prickly seed-pods are ripe, cut one off, break it open and plant the seeds. I've moved very small plants successfully. The plants are perennial. I think they are the best free-bee around... a handsome, drought tolerant, continuously blooming, native wild flower.
