need evergreen shrubs next to house

The previous owner had red tips, probably 12 to 15, planted up against the east side of the house. My husband dug up most of them and will soon remove the last of them. We want to plant some evergreens that will remain short without pruning. Something with berries for the birds would be an added bonus. Would certainly appreciate your suggestions. One end of this area would get part shade due to a few trees in the yard but the end toward the front yard will be in full sun.
