Thanks for thinking about natives. The Triad group does not, alas, have a regular meeting spot but often meets in Kernersville since most members are from the WS/Gsb area. In the late spring and summer months we usually do hikes and have indoor things when the weather is not so kind. The Triad group has no local dues, but you have to be a member of the state organization...(see first posting). Please join and then come to our hikes and meetings. Contact kathy@ncwildflower.org. The Virginia Dept of Forestry is working to preserve and restore native longleaf pines in southeastern VA. They created a database of all longleaf pines more than 50 years old (approximately 200 trees) and are using seed from these trees to grow seedlings. Using seed from other southern states, they also created a healthy stand of longleaf pines in the Suffolk area. For more info about this project, there is a link to a Fact Sheet below. Our local forester thought the Dept of Forestry would make longleaf pine seedlings available through their nursery seedling program this year but the catalog does not list them. I want to devote a portion of land to this tree so am interested in finding sources for longleaf pine seedlings, preferably containerized, from Virginia. My second choice would be containerized seedlings from eastern NC (this is where VA got most of their stock). Does anyone know of native tree nurseries or reputable sources for this tree? This website lets you browse photos by family, genus, flower color, and flower type. I also found some good lists for my county so I could google individual plants by name and get photos and info. Here is a link that might be useful: pnwflowers

APHIS is the division of the USDA responsible for the interstate movement of plants. They probably have guidelines on their website. A phytosanitary permit from them might be required.
