I agree with #1 thru #3 #4 looks like Populus balsamifera (Balsam Poplar) to me. #5 I agree, Tilia americana #6 Most likely Pyrus calleryana - Callery Pear, which is known to many erroneously as "Bradford Pear" because that's the oldest, best selling cultivar. Agree with #7 and #8 #9 Eleagnus umbellata - Autumn Olive #6 and #9 are aggressive exotic invasives which you should consider trying to eradicate, not transplanting. Also, I'd say it's tempting to transplant wild growing trees and shrubs and it can be done with care, but more often than not it ends in failure. Many wild established trees and shrubs, even when still young, resent the root disturbance and don't adjust well and end up dying or taking several years to recover. Some species are exceptions though and it doesn't always end that way, but like I said often times it does. Out of the trees and shrubs you listed, I'd think the smaller Blueberries have the best chance at being transplanted and would behave the best in the landscape.

Don't know of a source with the seed and filler mix, but two sources I've used for wildflower seeds are American Meadows (americanmeadows.com) and Everwilde Farms (everwilde.com). AM does sell wildflower mixes by region, so should have several tailored for the Northeast. I'm more familiar with EF as their varieties and quantity options are usually a better match for my urban lot projects. You'll have to pick seeds for your own mix if you want only perennials. Both firms should provide coverage estimates on their mixes to get to a cost for the area you're planning to seed. Edit - Forgot to add that not all AM mixes are 100% native and the EF native mixes probably are, but from an Upper Midwest (USA) perspective. Both do list the varieties used in each mix. Thank-you all for your replies! Dandy, I spent half of last yr "winter sowing"! I cut up milk bottles, decanted soil, etc etc. I grew Asclepias sp, columbine, button bushes, spicebushes, magnolias, Monarda sp. etc etc problem is I lost most of the seedlings to drought, strong, fast growing weeds and grass and slugs! I cannot bring myself to use more chemicals. I used some on the bittersweet vines and I feel bad about that. I know that in my case, chemicals are not going to work. I really haven't got the equipment or time to battle the meadow/hay/weed grass so I thought I'd identify the strong, maybe slightly invasive natives that will survive! I'd love to have a mix of native Asclepias but if I can get a few A. tuberosa and/or syriaca to take root in different spots I'll be happy! I will of course take the seed route again 'cause I can't afford plants...just wishful thinking. Maybe I'll try some coneflowers and hyssop....how bad are the sunflowers?

The height you want is a hard one .... usually 'short' means about 2-3 feet. The suggestions already given are good ones but here are a couple more not listed. Juncus tenuis - path rush 1' tall, dry soil, sun to part Muhlenbergia cuspidata - prairie satin grass 1' tall, dry soil, sun Carex rosea - curly styled wood sedge 1' tall, dry-mesic, shade to part shade You may want to consider spring ephemerals for flowers...they die back once they've bloomed. Otherwise there are violets that are under a foot tall.
