Hey, Toni. Hope u had a great weekend! Purple, do you mean Party Time Amaranthus instead of Coleus? I might but I don't think so. LOL! I was answering your question, Oh yeah, did you ever see the Coleus called, Party Time? . When you asked that, I googled to see what party time looks like, and thought it looked just like one of the coleus I have. What do you think? Super-Large-Leaf Coleus Is that the name of the plant or just a description? I usually use the "best" part (main stem) for a cutting but when it's frost time, I cut as many stems as I have room for and bring them in, in bottles of water. You know, I've found that removing the leaves from the main stem seems to be a quicker way to encourage side shoots on coleus (vs. pinching the growth tip.) I'm usually peeing-in-my-pants anxious in the spring for new coleus to make more stems so I can cut them up and spread them all over the yard. I started a coleus discussion on the foliage plants forum for folks to share their pics. Would love to see some of your pics on it! The Callisia does grow fast. Just a lovely and pleasant plant! I've always been paranoid about creeps on the WWW but now that my man and his giant horse-dog have moved into my life and my house, I don't worry so much about anonymous stalkers or WWW creeps. I would have moved and started all over AGAIN, but luckily his house doesn't have a fenced yard or central air, so we're all more comfortable here, and I'm no longer "an old maid." Do people even still say that anymore? I no longer regret any of the dumb moves I've made or troubles I've been through since changing any of that would have led me on a path that might not have included him. He's worth it. I'm about to start babbling about how he's done more to help my gardening efforts in a few scattered weekend days than I have been able to do alone in years, so I will stop myself. I know you have many plants that I don't. My last 3 moves (in the last 5 years) had really been devastating to my plant collection. Luckily I just gave most of them away, but some were just killed in various ways. The offer was made a while back, so if there's any reason you can't right now, that's perfectly understandable.

Purple, what's the deep red/purple, erect plant in the white pot!! Now that IS colorful! WOW! LOL, moving plants around..sounds like me when plants are brought back inside. When plants are set outside in spring, I usually keep most in locations they were placed previous summers. Although a few, Adeniums for example need a much brighter location than they were placed the last two summers. Thank God for poles w/hangers. Though we ended up placing bird feeders on three...can't deprieve the birds..or should they be called, squirrel feeders. lol..squirrels climb up poles, hang upsidedown like bats, stealing sunflower seed. Brats! Marjie..it's true..healthy is better than large. But, don't worry, in time, your plants will grow taller and wider. Howdy Josh. Is WJ/T. zebrina, one of the hundreds of plants names were changed over the years? In Purple's top two pics..her entire plant is deep purple. No silver or green. So, you're saying, her WJ was kept in shade? How much shade are we talking? Total shade..Does this include indoor shade? Sorry for all the questions, but her plant is amazing. I agree, placing such a tender tropical in direct sun, w/o acclimation, would scorch foliage. 'Scorch' isn't a very nice color. :)

Hmmm... I kinda figured it might be a tradescantia because it's growth habit is almost exactly like the tradescantia fluminensis pictured below: Only real differences that I can see are: of course the bloom color, the leaves on the one in question are a slightly darker green and with purplish spots on them, and the leaves are maybe not quite as long in proportion to their width. On the other hand, if it's a trillium, that'd be great, as I've wanted some trillium for my shade garden. Thanks for your input. Amanda :)

Today...my webbed-footed friends chewed a prized Canna down to a heights of 4", ate a Xanthosoma to the ground, and sheered off half a Colocasia Black Beauty!! I don't have enough cayenne & wire cages. :) Someone told me white vinegar will deter Muscovy ducks. Anyone know if this is true and...is it harmful to plants in any way?
