Tony, would your Sandvine sometimes be known as Honeyvine milkweed? If so, I grow that vine in a big pot on my deck. I did have it down in my garden area, but it gets the yellow aphids badly so I brought it up to the deck so I could frequently check if for the aphids. Now this little vine Does attrack mama Monarch. I can't recall seeing her nectaring on the tiny blooms but I've found Monarch eggs on the vines. Other little butterflies have been seen nectaring on the blooms and I just may have missed Mama Monarch. Sometimes the only indication I have that she has been by is when I come across her eggs. Mary, First,this particular species is endangered in Illinois and Maryland. Since you are in AR I can safely assume you did not find it in the wild in either of these states. LOL Second, here is some information on the species. Zone 6-8 Mature Height is 6-10 feet. Mature spread is 3-6 feet. Blooms May-June. Plant in full sun to part shade. Water requirement: Medium Maintenance requirement is Medium (I assume you may need to trim it back on occasion) I hope this helps!

Thanks for all the comments. I put in a couple of hours of work here and there when I have time, so my projects sometimes move somewhat slow, but I enjoy every time i'm out there. Stan, that majesty is already showing a trunk! I've been fertilizing and watering it a little extra just to get it to grow more. I'm hoping we'll get lots of time before our next scheduled arctic freeze! haha. This next winter we're supposed to be feeling the effects of El Nino, which for us here in the valley means lower than average winter temps while being encased in thick fog, but at the same time less frost and freezing temps. For other areas like the foothills of the Sierra and the coast it means warmer than average winter temps.

Trees and pools are never a hood combo. maybe a palm but they have issues too. if you want shade use heavy umbrellas & be sure to close when not in full use. Flowers like hibicus in containers are better (protect from freeze) or pots of seasonal color like vinca in summer and pansies in winter. Post Houston Freeze update My 15 ft, 3.5 yr old Japanese blueberry took till May to show growth near base. I left it alone until last week when I decided to have the upper limbs and trunch cut back as there was no sign of growth there. Its now a short squatty "tree" I plan to leave it til next year and then decide whats next...loose it or let it grow back its too hot yo plant a tree in summer. These are pretty trees, the dark berries were there and not a problem. The leaves turn red when they finish their life span and then fall off. This is maybe half of the year that shedding occurs. This can be a tree form or trimmed as a large bush, either way if not pruned they get tall (I think I read 30 ft) Note I was traveling during yhe freeze, this tree was not wrapped or lighted. It's in an East facing backyard on the North side next to a 7 ft fence. Many of the Japanese Blueberries in my neighbor hood grew back from lower trunk only, various exposure light and air circulation seemed to effect the rate of regrowth. PS any new tree needs deep water 1st year to establish roots, not just an irrigation system watering, hose running slow for an hour or so a few times a week. If I replant this I think it will be a holly tree, they did very well thru the freeze. Hope this helps!
