Anyone know what kind of flower this is?

Hello-

I bought this flower (link to picture below) at a local grocery store; there wasn't a name on the packaging. It caught my eye because the petals themselves are crisp and prickly. The flowers feel almost as though they have been dried out. I would like to know what it is so I can find more. I have nicknamed them the big dandelions for now, but I'm sure they have a much better name than that! Thank you so much for any help!

Those are one of the many strawflowers (everlastings, paper daisies, etc.) I've not grown them myself, but I expect that they are pretty easy. Look up 'strawflower seeds' for many on line sources for seeds. If you get any seed catalogs, you'll find them listed with the annuals.

Orange alstroemeria would work also, although budded forms are not nearly as attractive as the open flowers :-) Also orange mini carnations would be attractive as well, but again will produce a slightly different form from the picture bouquet. Tulips would be almost a perfect match for shape and form and with the South American cut flower market, they are available in many areas pretty much year round.

Looks like a Japanese Sunflower to me. Which is actually native of Central America.
