The moonflower vines I planted are using circumnutation to climb up the fishing line I wound around the porch post. I knew there was a more technical term for that kind of vine, TY! (Assuming I've used it correctly.) Speaking of spores... pro÷thal÷lus n., pl. = pro÷thal÷li: A small, flat, delicate structure produced by a germinating spore and bearing sex organs. It is the gametophyte of ferns and some other plants. (If someone can explain gametophyte in a way that makes sense to me, TIA!) Photoperiodism = the physiological reaction of organisms to the length of day or night. IE, plants that bloom when the days get longer/shorter.

Brian, You have laid out all the worries pretty well. The facts are: Pump operating correctly at 50-65 psi. 3 zones with 5 heads each 1" Dia. poly main with 3/4" Dia. laterals to heads. Literature says heads throw is 30 to 50 feet. Actual throw is 15 to 20 feet System is 17 years old. Notice gradual decrease in throw distance over 4 years. Most are original Rainbird heads. More Data needed: 1. Model No.s of heads and type. with that I can research throw distance per psi range for head. 2. Check pressure and flow from Pump or Tank outlet during operating irrigation system. 3. Is pump system separate from the house? 4. What is average level of Calcium and Iron in the water. Was the water in the well tested previous and could it be tested now. 6. Is the coverage still adequate or does the lawn now have dry spots? 7. What is the pumps design pressure and flow? Do you have the design curve literature? If not what is the make model, HP and amp required to operate the pump? I would start by checking from the source to the valves for design pressure and flow. If you had historical data for this you will see the pattern. This is just the beginning of the water audit for your system. Are you in for the long haul? Aloha

Thanks, glad to know I wasn't as mixed up as people tried to make me out to be, but I'm obviously not very good at explaining conifer seed production to others. I'll make another attempt and I'll be well aware of my audience. The adults may hear about naked seeds, but the 7 and 8 year olds will hear it a bit differently or I'll hear about nothing else the rest of the day! What would you say the pines are doing when lots of pollen is being released from the male cones? The pollen release happens in flowering plants when they are "flowering." Do the gymnosperms have a "coneing" time? I'm sure they don't since that sounds really stupid, but is there a term for the pollen releasing time?

Because a window guy had come over, and he told me in no uncertain terms that it's not called "flashing" but rather "rain-guard", whereas others on HOUZZ site called it flashing. So then I spoke to a woman at a small hardware store who told me there are choices of either "flashing which you have to cut to size" or else pre-made things called "drip-edges".(or maybe it was the other way around...whatever... So the real crux of my issue is... I have another one of those windows which you see in my pic, except its on opposite side of house, which never had gotten a rain-guard installed during its 1950s installation. And its exterior-sill is rotten, perhaps for that very reason. Assume I have a guy come to insert a wood-piece as a patch (which a few guys did say could be done, when they came to take a look). Would they say as follows? "Ma'am, sorry I can't install a drip-edge-dripcap-flashing-rain-guard for your window, because those things get put in as part of the window itself, and i'm merely doing a patch with a wood piece". Because that's sorta what this latest window guy told me - he said as follows: "the rain-guard was part of the 1950s window installation." Its a long story. I had quite a number of people over. One was actually my lawn guy who said his son does construction and can do a wood patch. Others were handymen or window guys, and then I realized when seeing some old yellow pages, that painters specialize in wood rot. So I had one of them over, who said he can do a wood patch. But I also want protection for the future, and thus my above question to you guys. Tangential to this thread, so you can ignore it. I actually also have a rotten exterior-door-sill threshhold (which got rotted from tons of snow). i'm undecided whether to Bondex via the painter, or else to do a complete repair involving lifting the interior-kitchen linoleum, as well as removing the rubber roll on the patio-floor (which happens to be the roof of the garage). I'm leaning toward the half-baked Bondex because today's times are so unstable anyway, so why go thru the upheaval and greater expense... On the opposite side there's also a rotted exterior threshhold of a never-used-sealed-door, and in fact, mold entered in on the interior side of that door. But I might just occasionally vinegar it, and ignore it. I only wish there were some affordable way to make all these things maintenance free for good, because I have so much else to deal with - i.e. health issues combined with a huge, impossible property - tons of leaves, tons of grass & roots, tons of snow avalanching eastward down slopes toward long-driveway. Every season another trauma.
