Some kind of wild cucumber? It looks similar, though not identical, to the species we have in the east (Echinocystis lobata).

By Golly! That is EXACTLY what that is. I would never have
guess a wild cucumber. I am posting a link to a photo I found

Looks like the wild cucumbers that grow here in NY.

That is California Manroot (Marah Fabaceus). The seeds are poisonous. When ripe, the fruits explode. It's a cal native.

Marah macrocarpus. M. fabaceus fruit are smaller and roundish.
