i guess a scale might have helped.. the thing is about 6 inch caliper at the ground... maybe 3 up at the cut .... i really dont see swinging around on it ... lol and the cut is about 6 to 8 feet up ... so fully within my extension ladder ... yes.. i was planning a first cut 3 feet out or so .. to reduce the load on the proper cut .... the first cut will probably be with a pole pruner.. nothing worse than worrying about a big branch knocking the ladder out from under you .. almost been there.. almost done that.. lol ... usually i have neighbor or wifey under such.. cut it slowly.. letting it arc down to the ground.. and letting them grab and pull it to keep it from the ladder ... but man.. pole pruning hurts ... some of those neck and shoulder muscles are never used in that manner... why now?? .. because it is fully within my capability .... in 5 years.. when it is poking through the window ... i would probably have to hire someone to come prune it ... i am trying to be ahead of the curve.. but i should have taken it off 3 years ago when it was pencil sized.. but life got in the way .... trees are easy to take care of ... if you have the foresight to do it.. BEFORE it become the monster it has the potential too ... ken

Wood and water don't mix. Changes in humidity or tracking in a bit of water on top of the floor shouldn't be an issue but if you are going to have seepage at doors or windows or rain blowing in through openings, find something other than wood. An oceanfront condo is no different than a regular house that might be a block or a mile from the beach in regards to wood flooring and the effects of moisture.

Hello friends After a long time i have again reverted back to this forum. I learnt my container vegetable gardening on this forum and now that i have moved to my new place in Pakistan i wish to now further that hobby with a target of being able to make a living out of it in the next 5 years. As far as this post is concerned, i m looking for some suggestions on maximum production on the limited space that i have. For sake of clarification, i have around 1500 sq. Ft of rooftop south facing space and around 500 sq. Ft of a west facing passage on one side of the house. Sun light would be limited to two hours on that side, however with vertical garden the light time could be significantly extended. In addition i have around 800 ft of south facing in ground gardening space. I would be highly grateful if you could share your suggestions and preferably links to web posts as well as earlier forum posts to help me plan my way forward. Thanks n regards
