Hi there, I have the same or similar plant as #6, and I was pretty sure that it was an aloe. I thought that agave only grew as rosettes? #6 looks like the leaves are opening more in a line like a partridge breast aloe (Aloe variegata) when it is small. Also, with an agave you can often see the imprint of the leaves on each other as the new growth leaves are all pressed together in a center spike. The agaves are more fibrous, too. Plenty of aloes have spikey parts, I think. Having said all that, realize that I am no expert, but have an interest in what the plant is that I have. I once thought a Haworthia that I had was an aloe, so I can be wrong here, too. Thanks. asiap.

njoasis - I'm in north central Pa, 1 hour NW of State College. I plan on planting the cast iron but I wanted to get some size on it first. Everyone in the NE along the coast is in our prayers. Hopefully you all pull through Irene and it doesn't do much damage. nova - I was thinking similarly on the palms, but wasn't sure. Not sure on the microdasys either. I had one that looked like microdasys last year ant choked in our winter. These seem to have flat rather then curved pads. I'm horrible at cactus Id's though. We'll see how it gets through the winter. The banana doesn't look like my basjoo. This is a pic from the first year. I've always taken pups but it's never gotten this big again. I agree, the calla doesn't appear like most callas. I got it from Joe at Triple Oaks, hopefully he sees one of my posts and can help. I swore the tag said calla but I can't find it now.

What a gorgeous home! And I LOVE the fabric. If the chairs are good quality and comfortable, I'd definitely do it. Twelve yds is probably not enough for four chairs, but people has posted examples here of mixing fabrics on chairs, and it can look great. For example, use the japan-inspired fabric on the backs of chair, and use another fabric for heavy-use cushions and inside back. Once you add a coffee table and rug, I think the scale will look more reasonable. Re: bar for six, you could roughly double the depth of the bar and add a seat at either end. Of course, that would involve some cost, but not much if choose e.g. wood as the top piece. Depending on how much room you need to walk behind the bar, you might even be able to do something larger, with a curve to it.
