I would get a spray bottle of soapy water with some tabasco or other hot pepper sauce in it. Those aren't spider webs - not if the flower is being eaten. Earwigs are notorious about getting into dahlia flowers, but they don't make a web. You may have spidermites - which the soapy water will probably knock off, but look for earwigs buried in the flowers. they are yucky looking but you'll get used to smashing them!

I was confused at first, til I saw "nesting material". Cool idea! I have lots of spiderwebs around, so I don't think I need to move any. But I have to admit, that is REALLY thinking about your hummers!!! I suspect it is VERY hard to "move" spiderwebs (they are really sticky of course). But I look forward to hearing about how well it works. If I may make a suggestion... The only hummer nests I have ever found in the yard were in small cedar trees. If you can move a spider web, you might as well deposit them on those (or of course anywhere you think they might nest).

spiders are your friends.. they are predators of many problem insects.. i would hestitate to get rid of them ... they may be there because another problem pest is in high population .... where are you .. was the house vacant? .... take a deep breath .. i know you hate spiders... but dont create bigger problems ... first step i recommend.. see if spiders are a problem for your new neighbors.. if not.. then you dont need to nuke the place ... they are there for a reason .. what if they are keeping the blood sucking skeeters in check .. which would you rather have??.. i will take the spiders ... this years spike in population, for whatever reason .. may not be there next year ... and try to ID the spiders... i guess i am presuming you have plain old spideys.. and not dangerous ones.. good luck.. ken

What you are seeing isn't spider webs but fungus. Algae and molds (usually greenish color) and fungi spores grow on the surface of soils that are kept too moist and if there is inadequate air circulation. They can be harmful to the seedlings if allowed to proliferate but prevention is easy - cut back on watering. Also if possible increase the air circulation around the plants - many use a small fan to do this. You can find out much more info about this over on the Growing from Seed forum here as there are other discussions there about it right now. Suggest you plan to direct seed your radishes and carrots in the garden in the future as both are tap root plants and are very intolerant of transplanting. If the top root is damaged in the process the parts you would eat are usually twisted, broken or distorted. Dave
